People were waiting to see OG's defensive matchup stats for the last game and they were great but it is weird seeing that only 1 of Tatum's 19 shots were considered to be defended by OG. Obviously there is more to defense than what happens on the shot attempt but I had to go back and look at Tatum's shots and maybe only 3 of those shots came with OG in the general area. The team as a whole did a great job containing Tatum though he did miss some shots he normally makes.

I remember being shocked that Thibs wasn't matching OG with Tatum minute for minute and there was even a stretch where OG was on the bench in the 4th with Tatum on the court. It was one of those moments where I was happy Thibs just kept rolling with what was working and not immediately rushing back to his starting 5. He seemed comfortable rolling with the Brunson/Hart/Bridges + 2 bigs lineup until Boston attempted the hack-a-mitch strategy later in the 4th.

I wonder if our teams conditioning from playing all those minutes in the regular season is just better than every other team which allows us to have these 4th quarters where the other team is tired?

And I say this as a member of the minutes police sometimes..

ihart has a little push shot and he's good at finding an open cutter. OK. we got KAT who is a 3 level scorer with passing skills too. ihart couldn't defend either opposing center in last year's playoffs and he for damn sure wasn't bout to lock tatum up. you talking crazy Polk!!!

How quickly you forget the effort plays that got the Knicks past Philly. Game 2 heroics don't happen without I-Hart offensive rebound to get Donte another shot and then the block of Maxeys layup to close it out.

It’s simply a process.

Even if this series still turns ugly, we’ll still know we’re right there now and the team will certainly take steps forward this offseason in terms of cohesion, play-calling and defensive rotations.

According to the media the Knicks didn't earn these wins. It was the Boston Celtics who gave these games away to the Knicks.

What a turnaround. I am still trying to curb my expectations tho. It basically took 2 once-in-a-decade collapses from Boston to get us the wins.
At some point, they will start making threes. But now, we are in this one. big time.

I dont see it that way. Our defense was better. Yes the Celtics missed open shots but that was because IN GENERAL our defense was elite and better than theirs. Knicks deserve credit and you know what-while Thibs isnt an offensive genius and might let the Knicks play too much on their own. His strategy helped get us 5 consecutive road wins in the play-offs. He deserves some credit too.

Agree 100%

Honestly, i'm not sure. Our wings played a ton of minutes this year but so did theirs until Brown was dealing with an injury. I remember Tatum speaking on his minutes during the year saying that he knows that Mazzulla will ramp up his minutes in big matchups in preparation for the postseason and so far it hasn't worked out in his favor.

Also even though our guys did play a ton of minutes this year they never seem like they were competing with playoff intensity for much of the year so i'm not sure how well it prepared them for these moments. It's part of the reason many of us were so down on the team this year. The team just didn't seem like it had much fight far too often.
