There's something about an underdog that really inspires the unexceptional.

When has Bill Simmons ever broke a story? Everybody knows Woj's sources are in the NBA office and not with any particular teams. This weekend has been funny.

Melo said he was willing to take less. Phil was supposed to leave it there. It was not Phil's place to harp on it especially since we all know Melo's market says he is in fact a max player. That is where I will forever stand on that issue. Phil played that card wrong.

I dont see any team moving heaven and earth to offer a max, so no....that isnt his value.

Plus the CBA dictates melo's max...not market, unless another team can offer 129 mil....thats isnt his "market".

The team he was rumored to be signed, sealed, delivered with to the point of asking about the coach and how it is to have a celebrity life there offered him a starting salary of 15 mil.....

Melo is worth max only from a business standpoint, a tool to sell more tickets and merchandise at higher prices, because for the most part basketball fans go goo goo gaga over individuals over the actual teams they play for.

Phil's mistake imo should have been to offer a number he truly feels he can work with to effectively build the team he visions, which would have been in line with everything he has said.

Then if comes to max...so be it.

This guy has reported some good stuff. He seems solid, taking an objective look at his Tweets. For example:

SOURCE: The Chicago Bulls are trying to package their 16th and 19th overall picks to move up into the top ten in efforts to add a shooter.

I don't think a Kobe Max has as bad a cap impact as people say. But it's the principle. Melo is not a great or young player. And now he just seems dishonest and selfish.

SOURCE: Carmelo Anthony expected to reach a verbal agreement with the Knicks as early as tomorrow. The deal will be for the max.

The only way the verbal agreement won't happen is if LeBron and him decide to team up somewhere. However that's unlikely to happen.

28,000 followers so he's a real reporter.

Eh, he put out false info before. Especially regarding my Jets. Had me thinking we were a lock to trade up for Sammy Watkins at 1 point.

Follower count don't really do it for me. Incarceratedb*tch has 126,000 followers.

If the Lakers really made such an impression and they are offering him the max (which appeals to his ego and pocket) whats the hold up? His wife can launch a new series of Lala takes L.A and he'll be in a city he loves.
Just pick a team already....this playing the media game is so exasperating.

He showed that when he didn't want to wait for FA because of the new CBA. Got his big money from the Knicks and crushed us in the process.

IrishBeatdown wrote:Yeah, my whole argument is predicated on the idea that faced with a decision of whether to get a deal in a situation where you may end up with nothing, the knicks agree to take on short term salary for picks & prospects.

If I was losing Melo, I would rather have 2-3 first rounders and Mirotic than absolutely nothing to kick off my rebuild, but that is just me. In a vacuum, that makes sense, right? Or still illogical?

Your whole argument is based on Melo leaving the Knicks and signing outright with Chicago. That's the only way we're even getting to a S&T scenario is if he's making that threat. And if he is making that threat, then we'll gladly call his bluff and dare him to leave.

Either get a major FA in 2015 or Phil builds a very effective balanced roster by then, or sign him now and deal him after 2015 if neither of the first two things happen.
