In the end I think he will re-sign however, these dudes have egos. Making them feel as if they should/ have to do something only pushes them in the op posit direction. Melo said he was willing to take less. Phil was supposed to leave it there. It was not Phil's place to harp on it especially since we all know Melo's market says he is in fact a max player. That is where I will forever stand on that issue. Phil played that card wrong.

I dont see any team moving heaven and earth to offer a max, so no....that isnt his value.

Plus the CBA dictates melo's max...not market, unless another team can offer 129 mil....thats isnt his "market".

The team he was rumored to be signed, sealed, delivered with to the point of asking about the coach and how it is to have a celebrity life there offered him a starting salary of 15 mil.....

Melo is worth max only from a business standpoint, a tool to sell more tickets and merchandise at higher prices, because for the most part basketball fans go goo goo gaga over individuals over the actual teams they play for.

Phil's mistake imo should have been to offer a number he truly feels he can work with to effectively build the team he visions, which would have been in line with everything he has said.

Then if comes to max...so be it.

Yeah, my whole argument is predicated on the idea that faced with a decision of whether to get a deal in a situation where you may end up with nothing, the knicks agree to take on short term salary for picks & prospects.

If I was losing Melo, I would rather have 2-3 first rounders and Mirotic than absolutely nothing to kick off my rebuild, but that is just me. In a vacuum, that makes sense, right? Or still illogical?

Your whole argument is based on Melo leaving the Knicks and signing outright with Chicago. That's the only way we're even getting to a S&T scenario is if he's making that threat. And if he is making that threat, then we'll gladly call his bluff and dare him to leave.
