1. I think Gallo is an untouchable in the eyes D'antoni and Walsh in any 'Melo deal. The reason is that Gallo not only provides that constant 3-point threat to spread the floor for Amare, but because Gallo is tied to D'antoni at the hip because of their history together and D'antoni's relationship with Gallo's dad. He wouldn't do that to his old friend.
2. I believe Walsh when he says he can get a 1st rounder when/if needed. Walsh has yet to outright lie to the fans/media. He's usually very straight forward and tells you exactly how it is.
3. I think Chandler is the centerpiece to any Knicks' offer to Denver for several reasons. Chandler is a RFA at the end of the season and he's playing practically the same spot 'Melo would play for this team so with the trade, you upgrade that SF/PF hybrid position. Lose Chandler now or lose him in the off-season... it's really the same thing.
4. I think Donnie has offered Chandler + Randolph/1st and Denver is asking for Fields to be included as well. Fields is the sticking point. Donnie may counter with Douglas but Douglas is not Fields... we all know that. I don't blame Denver for trying to get as much as possible for Anthony and I don't blame Donnie for playing hard ball. This is the high-stakes poker game being played behind closed doors. I think, in the end, Donnie may bite the bullet and part with Fields, but I think there's a good chance Donnie will substitute other assets in place of Fields to sweeten the pot. Another 1st (2114?) or Douglas and 2nd plus $3M cash. I think Donnie will buy a future 1st with cash and a 2nd/Walker and I think the deal gets done some time in January or February and looks something like:
'Melo + Carter for Curry + Chandler + Randolph + Douglas + 1st + $3 Million
Some excellent points, but I disagree with #1. Gallo's name has been in almost every rumored Melo offer, so I don't see any evidence to suggest Walsh wouldn't trade him because of D'Antoni. If we were going to run our team that way, then Patrick Ewing Jr. would still be here.
Also, for #3, keep in mind that DEN could lose Chandler for nothing at the end of the season as well, and he has been quoted as saying he doesn't want to go to Denver. I wonder how much value they are placing on a guy who might not re-sign there.
