I think they were more planning on flipping Harris for something. I don't think they had plans of keeping him around with Lawson there.

They probably want neither. That is the reason it is still early and the deal will probably require a third team.

Our best offer WILL look like this:

Curry/Azubuike/Fields/Mozgov/2011 Pick (via Randolph)/2014 pick/two 2nd Round Picks/$3 million

— FOR —

Melo/Birdman

What if we take Harrington and substitute Walker+Douglas in for Fields?

You're being greedy. Plus, why on earth would you want Al Harrington back in NY? Even if I have to part with Fields to ensure not bringing back FREE CANDY you do it! Plus, I'll gladly drive Fields to the airport of his choice if I'm getting to keep Gallo AND Chandler. They WILL NOT want Wilson cuz he's due to get paid. Also, it's in our best interest to keep Gallo (along with Shawne Williams) as floor spacers. Fields is good but we are being (Please Use More Appropriate Word) if we don't want to give him up when we're getting to keep Wilson/Gallo. We have their Bird rights and can easily resign both to go along with our Amare/Melo/Felton core. That is a GREAT small-ball starting five with Birdman, Turiaf, Douglas and Williams off the bench.

PG - Felton
SG - Gallinari
SF - Melo
PF - Chandler
C- Amar'e

BENCH: Douglas, Williams, Turiaf, Birdman

patrick ewing isnt the gm of the nuggets, thats why

And he wasn't the GM of the Grizzlies either....

Fair enough. But Douglas needs to go. I thought you wanted him gone anyway.

We need a true backup PG and Birdman needs to start. Bring Wil off the bench to backup the 2/3/4.

This is what I dont get. Maybe Im going senial though.... Why are people so quick to not include Chandler in a trade, when Gallo/Fields are going to get their paper in one more season? Just because Chandler said he "doesnt wanna sign in Denver"? Since when does Gallo or Fields? Whats the difference? Right now Chandler's game is best suited to "replace" Melo and hes the most well rounded scorer from a volume perspective. He could blow up in Denver to Rudy Gay/Danny Granger levels.

Plus who said Denver even wants Gallo? Didnt Karl call him a flopper? It seems they like Fields the most, and even Walker for god knows why .

Denver wont even be able to get much value in a trade for Gallo and Fields because after this season they will be FAs too. So can someone explain to me this myth? :D.

Denver will NOT be taking back Gallo OR Chandler. FIELDS IS THEIR MAN. Fields will play ANYWHERE he is traded. Wilson doesn't want Denver and Denver doesn't want to pay him next season at his going rate. Denver also isn't high on Gallo. Our package will be:

Curry/Azubuike/Randolph pick/FIELDS/2014 pick/two 2nd rounders/$3 milly cash considerations

FOR: --> Melo/Birdman (but if they insist we may have to take back Al instead of Birdman)

I think we'll end up getting him in a sign and trade this offseason unless he goes to a rental team and re-ups with them. They'd probably get 2 picks and a TPE at the end of the season. To them the TPE is worth more than a guy like chandler or gallo who will be due a big contract extension within the next year. With the TPE they have a chance of adding talent of their chosing instead of having to "settle" with our pieces which they aren't interested in keeping long term anyway. We'd have to come up with a really solid offer that makes passing up on the TPE worth it for them (maybe chandler or gallo to a third team for a young player that they're more interested in??)

what teams can give the nuggets a superior offer, given all the factors involved?

Factors involved:
*Melo will only sign extension with NYK, Nuggets as far as we know.
*Melo may entertain extending with a Dallas/Orlando/Chicago or contender
*Denver has stated they do not want to trade him within the Western Conference
*Denver looking for a deal of promising talent with which to rebuild, high draft picks, and savings/expirings
*Teams may want to rent melo, regardless of extension situation

That being said,
what teams can offer a better package that denver would agree to and that Melo would lean towards extending with?
What teams will gamble and rent Melo, and their offer is more attractive to Denver than our package?

Id do that deal in a second. This is hilarious how Fields might be the biggest key to getting Melo. Who woulda thunk it back in June?.

I do want him gone ASAP but it's not about what "I" want...it's about what the deal is going to be. If we think reationally Denver has no use for Douglas with Lawson as their guy and Billups due to be resigned at a cheap hometown discount to continue mentoring Ty and passing the torch to him then retiring to a Denver FO position. Douglas will go at a later date.

But Lakers legend Jerry West was. That was his point. The popular opinion there is that West did LA a favor. Same way McHale did for Boston when he traded them KG. Not saying those deals were grossly lopsided, but both the Lakers and Celtics made out pretty nicely considering they both resulted in multiple chips and finals appearances and gave up nothing that was sorely missed. Something tells me that the Denver FO isn't looking to give the Knicks that sort of helping hand.

EXACTLY! Which is all the more reason to drive Fields to the airport if he is the key to this deal and we get to keep Gallo/Chandler. People are doing the "turn your nose up at KG cuz we bred Frye" thing all over again.
