Only thing the home team can offer more is that extra 6th year (vs. 5 years) and 10% raises (vs. 8.5% raises). It was really that 6th year where every analyst was arguing how Cleveland could offer "$30M more than any other team." What they always failed to mention was that per annum, the difference was only a few million.
Yet you still had every ESPN hack, including Chad Fraud and the like, claiming that there's no way LeBron would turn down $30M in guaranteed money. "He'd be insane to do so!" And the crazy part is, not only did he turn it down, but he took LESS than the max to play where he wanted. After a summer where LeBron, Wade, and Bosh all took paycuts to play together, and Cliff Lee chose less guaranteed years to play in his desired city in a stacked pitching rotation, I find it amazing that there are still those who believe it's all about money for Melo. Maybe, just maybe, he has other priorities.
