I think there is another element in this equation that is being overlooked: Melo is enjoying this whole thing! He likes the attention and being the focal point.

Funny you mentioned that KG. I was thinking the same thing. Not only is he "playing the game like he's really confused(to minimize the villain perception). He's also as you said enjoying the attention to some degree.

Made me think that because he's smiling about being screwed, he's telling everybody that he knows about whether he'll go to the Nets and the Nuggets only need to ask him, then they said that he wanted the Nets to kiss his ring, likes to be sold, etc.

None of it is too malicious or anything. Melo seems like an OK guy. But he is enjoying the drama a little.

Ok thanks, I appreciate the explanation, however I always thought the Team you were contracted to could offer more Money then other teams could offer in FA.

Only thing the home team can offer more is that extra 6th year (vs. 5 years) and 10% raises (vs. 8.5% raises). It was really that 6th year where every analyst was arguing how Cleveland could offer "$30M more than any other team." What they always failed to mention was that per annum, the difference was only a few million.

Yet you still had every ESPN hack, including Chad Fraud and the like, claiming that there's no way LeBron would turn down $30M in guaranteed money. "He'd be insane to do so!" And the crazy part is, not only did he turn it down, but he took LESS than the max to play where he wanted. After a summer where LeBron, Wade, and Bosh all took paycuts to play together, and Cliff Lee chose less guaranteed years to play in his desired city in a stacked pitching rotation, I find it amazing that there are still those who believe it's all about money for Melo. Maybe, just maybe, he has other priorities.

I think many people, including Chad Ford, are considering non guaranteed money as lost money, & its confusing as hell.

And it will be irrelevant because they will have to make the entire leagues contracts "non guaranteed". You can't have one group of players have "guaranteed money" and everyone moving forward have "non guaranteed" money. The players association will NEVER agree to that. Therefore, whether Melo signs the extension or not makes NO DIFFERENCE.

I am going to respectfully disagree for now. But yes, your reason may explain why melo is willing to wait it out for NYK. Hopefully we'll get some new clues about the cba after trade deadline is over.

Josh Smith for Carmelo would be a good trade for both teams. They are not going to keep Horford if they have Smith. Too much money invested.

According to a source, the Players Association hopes Anthony does not make his decision based on a doomsday scenario NBA commissioner David Stern and his agents are promoting. The union hopes Anthony goes about his business as normal, knowing NBPA executive director Billy Hunter will not agree to an unfavorable CBA deal for its superstars.

How many new teams have the media linked to Melo these last few days lol, Clippers, Hawks, Wizards, Bulls, Rockets and the Nets again dont doubt for a second next week we are going to hear about 3 or 4 new teams added to the Melo Chase. This is getting ridiculous!!!

It would probably have to be Carmelo and a 1st or something because getting rid of Smith's contract is somewhat of a gain. They can make a run at the finals this year.

The rumor i've heard floating around is there will be a Super Tax (2-3 times what it is now).

An enhanced luxury tax coupled to the elimination the MLE would put a SUBSTANTIAL drag on salaries going forward. If the owners expect more than that...they gotta be doing serious drugs.
