1. Help facilitate Melo to LA, which sways James to join the Lakers soon after
2. Help get 2 of his disciples head coaching gigs
3. Take $10 M of Dolans money for a years worth of keeping his feet up at a desk, only to step down that offseason citing differences between ownership and himself
4. Signs a lucrative deal with the Lakers, taking the dual role of President/head coach

If anyone's capable of masterminding this type of genius (without getting caught of course), it would be Phil Jackson.

So let's go worst case scenario. The Big three leave Miami. Well, Riley is not opposed to tanking, though he might say all the right things. The following season, Miami has all the room to go grocery shopping to maybe grab a Lamarcus Aldridge or compete with the Knicks for the services of Marc Gasol.

I just hope Knick fans are not fooling themselves. NO WAY Lebron is coming to the Knicks.

A thing to remember about what happens if you don't keep Melo is this. Depending on where he and James winds up, it's very possible that in the next few seasons, you're going to have several BIG market teams with ton of cap space and not only so many free agents to go around.

Knicks could be competing not only with the home town teams of marque free agents like Portland, Memphis, OKC, but might also be competing with Miami, Los Angeles, and Boston for whatever free agents test the waters.

How is that worst case scenario?

Also, I think this summer has shown more that Lebron is the puppet master, not Riley

Worst case scenario is Melo gets the super-max and permanently ruins his shoulder in training camp.

That is where I will forever stand on that issue. Phil played that card wrong.

I dont see any team moving heaven and earth to offer a max, so no....that isnt his value.

Plus the CBA dictates melo's max...not market, unless another team can offer 129 mil....thats isnt his "market".

The team he was rumored to be signed, sealed, delivered with to the point of asking about the coach and how it is to have a celebrity life there offered him a starting salary of 15 mil.....

Melo is worth max only from a business standpoint, a tool to sell more tickets and merchandise at higher prices, because for the most part basketball fans go goo goo gaga over individuals over the actual teams they play for.

Phil's mistake imo should have been to offer a number he truly feels he can work with to effectively build the team he visions, which would have been in line with everything he has said.

Then if comes to max...so be it.

You don't think if the Bulls or Lakers had either the money(Bulls) or 5th year(LA) they wouldn't hand it to him?
I do. This is where you and I will never agree. Even on the court Melo is a max player in today's game. Look at the contracts being thrown around. Melo at max lines up.

Why do people say the super max.

It's just the max.

HIS max.

You dont have to agree, you're debating facts, not opinion.....they cannot offer it, end of story there.

Melo's market as a star player is determined by the CBA, and reality is....teams arent bending for him.

Fact.....no other team CAN offer 129 mil......so that isnt his market as no one but the Knicks can give it to him.

There hasnt been any report the Bulls are even trying to get anywhere close to what their max for him is....15 mil was allegedly offered during the selling meeting.

At this point, I'm not discussing "if's" only what we've known and facts.

And if you're really in believe that a team offering a bad contract justifies melo's max, I pray Phil doesnt have similar thinking.
