Stat is a tank commander. Phil will be my spirit animal if he can trade this guy before the deadline.
And just like that, the lead has been cut to 8!

With regards to the offense saw a lot of things I liked but the defense I don't know what happened, maybe not having Dalembert in there more as the anchor hurt I don't know. But defense took a big step back compared to how well they had progressed especially in closing out shooters. I think tempo also hurt knicks, they let the younger team fool them into playing high tempo. Lots to work on defensively still.

Some other thoughts:

Pregioni looks old, I'm hoping it's just some rust and he will look better later on but man he looked old and slow. He had no life in his legs and no lift on his shot. I know on paper it looks like he did okay overall but I didn't like what I saw from him. Since knicks play triangle having depth here is not a huge concern but I'd be a bit worried about Calderon's backup spot.

Mayo can shoot lights out but wow something about that kid just irks me. You can tell he just does it for the paycheck.

Kidd has a fun team on his hands. Lots of young players I like, Wolters, Parker, Greek guy, Middleton, Henson etc, etc.

Carmelo looked ready for season except seemed to get tired later on in the game, pretty normal at this point though. Have to be excited about 6 assists, very encouraging! Stat looked better, looked more spry but he is still a liability on D with a capital L and he is still a bad fit.

Still worried about PF. I know many were anointing Acy but I don't think he locked it up by any means. Jason Smith although he had rough game might be best all around fit there.

Aldrich played 3 minutes last night and he actually looked good the 3 mins he played. He should have played more considering Dalembert only played 8. I don't know if Fisher just remembers Cole from playing together and was not impressed or if he feels he knows him well enough and doesn't need to see him more or if he just doesn't like him but he hasn't been playing him much that much is sure.

look, we faced a team that's probably at its midseason peak. Honestly, there team was a matchup problem for us due to length and speed.

1) Their PGs are just too quick for ours. With Calderon getting hurt and Larkin not really being a PG, this matchup was pretty lopsided. Kidd smartly ran PNRs against us all day. Larkin (cluelessness) and Prigioni (old age) can't stop that.

2) Greek Freak is an ultimate matchup nightmare. Playing Amare the whole game, while smart to reduce rust issues, led to a super porous defense.

3) Parker is the real deal too.

Look, there are certain teams that are just going to have our number this year, and there's nothing we can do about it. Young scrubby teams will burn us with speed, with or without Calderon. Gotta get used to it.

However, we still have to figure out how to defend the P&R, though I blame Amare mostly for it.

Some trades wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. Knicks roster is very awkward let's face it.

My take...while it is only still preseason and the expectation should be that it's going to take a bit to get this bunch used to and effectively playing the Triangle...something is not right. It just feels wrong. They are not feeling it. Expending too much energy to do what they do. Really had little to do with the Bucks athleticism IMO.

I understand not everyone is as into pre-season but some players definitely looked more locked in than others. The effort on D overall was pathetic. I don't know what happened there since it looked way way better in other games.

Clearly we need Dally in the starting lineup. His length alone is needed.

Well a big loss was Calderon who is a pace setting and can control a team. If we lose him for any length of time we are going to be in huge trouble.

Now this Amare at center experiment needs to end. He is so clueless on the defensive end it isn't even funny. Yes he can score a little and can exploit other teams centers but he is just that bad defensively that for a period of time they just continued to run the same top of the key high P&R and it led to the guard with an easy floater, the roller with a dunk, or a wide open 3 because we had to over help because amare was out of position.

He has no clue how to defend the P&R and he will never ever learn, some people will just never learn and he is one of them. Everyone in the league knows it too, so they will continue to put him in the P&R until he is taken out of the game.

It's got to be one or the other, tank and play our high priced terrible players in hopes we up there value enough to possibly trade them at or before the deadline or play the best team out there.

If we want to play the most competitive team out there we probably need to stick to the following 9/10 man rotation.

Calderon/Shump/Melo/Jason Smith/Dalembert

Pablo/THjr/JR Smith(when he isn't playing like an idiot)/Wear/Cole Aldrich

Amare, Bargnani, and JR need to weeded out of the rotation as soon as possible. Will we struggle to score from time to time without them, absolutely but I am willing to deal with that for playing better defensive and smart basketball.

Amare and JR are absolute clowns out there in the preseason. They continue to cost us and will until they are officially off the team.

Is there really a big difference if Amare is playing C vs PF? Seems like he will be exposed either way.

I'd say maybe backup C he has less of a chance to get burned just because there are not many backup C's that can score.

Stat needs to gtfo.

Start: Dally, Smith, Melo, Shump, Calderone.

Bench: Cole, Acy, Smith, THJr

Let THJr learn to initiate the triangle. Timmy's defense is still pretty terrible. Damn. Our defense can't afford to trot Stat out there. They were putting Stat in pick and rolls all game especially with THjr and Prigs as the other defender. Ouch.

agreed

the only reason I think people want amare to start is because he is more in rhythm and he wont sulk. But tough **** if you ask me. The reason he shouldn't play at all is because.

He needs to start to be in rhythm offensive
He can't start because he is the worst defensively

He needs to come off the bench to hide his defensive struggles
He can't come of the bench because he sulks and looks rusty

there is no good way to handle amare. He will continue to be a losing player because of this and unless we stop playing him, he gets hurt, or we trade him he will continue to cause this team to lose.

I feel as if his ineffective and the power forward position not only on defense but on offense as well. At least playing at the center position allows him to be productive offensively.

STAT should start to help keep pressure off of Carmelo. We can't keep asking Melo to carry the offensive load all by his lonesome at ALL times. No one we brought in can help alleviate the offensive pressure on Melo right now. The only dude remotely capable is STAT.
