Ainge just says "fine you don't want the deal? We get LMA for cheaper."
LMA is much older than KP, but still fits Celtics' current need to upgrade over Amir Johnson.
I think Ainge still wants KP more obviously, but if the price is too steep they will have at least a consolation prize that doesn't cost them nearly as much.
Darn so we get to keep KP?
But imo Phil still has (maybe the ultimate) leverage that if we keep KP, he will be able to say, "I didn't trade our best player, our franchise, I did the best thing for the organization and for the fans, I never really entertained the offers for him".
Majority of Knicks fans want/ expect Phil to keep KP at all costs (or they'd revolt), so by Phil saying this to Ainge that not trading KP will also fall in line with his doing what he's supposed to do as an exec (as most execs don't trade their young stars), could force Ainge, who may be thinking Phil's overplaying his hand and waiting for him to come back to earth to reconsider their offer, to buckle, especially if Ainge believes KP, and not LMA, is the one player that could get them over the hump.
