Chandler would be a flipping fool to go elsewhere (coming off of a rookie contract) when Denver could offer the most $$$ and the Nuggets know that. What Chandler's saying now is what he should be saying when the team is winning. Nobody believes he won't resign with Denver anymore than Denver believed Melo would leave. The difference is where they are at opposite points in their respective careers. Melo is in his prime looking to get win a title, team up with a friend and return home while Chandler is in search of his first big contract ala David Lee.

Restricted free agents can't be centerpieces of deals.

And it has nothing to do with any comments he might have made regarding Denver.

There is just too much uncertainty.

The centerpiece of your deal could accept the QO and play his one season on your team with his foot out the door.

Worse, another team could swoop in and sign him to an offer sheet that exceeds what you perceive to be his value.

You can talk all day about what Chandler may likely get on the market, or what he might do it traded there, but either way Denver cannot predict or control it, which is the inherent problem.

Yes. It is not even certain whether the next CBA will do away with RFA altogether. Chandler's trade value is low in a rebuilding trade. It is more likely he goes to another contending team in a three team deal if he is added in a trade.

"knowledgeable league sources say Melo hasn't necessarily ruled out the Nets"

Boy that's a very definitive statement.

All this speculation is very funny. If there was a deal to be made with Jersey, it would behoove Denver to make it ASAP. What's the hold-up?

the nets already had the best offer. so now they've improved on it and still nothing is happening. you'd think at some point they'd realize that it's not gonna happen and denver has been playing with them.

I think they know they're out of it so they're trying to make the Knicks sell the farm just to get Melo by putting more pressure on us. Too bad they fail to realize Melo and Amar'e are close friends and Amar'e relays messages to Donnie Walsh.

So, basically all season long so far we've been seeing NJ getting close to finalizing a deal for Melo and they failed at it in September. Why the hell do these "sources" keep saying he hasnt ruled them out yet when clearly he would be there if wanted NJ.
