Not exactly imo but it is frustrating being MID, especially seeing other coaches using our ex players better (to their strengths) and passing on so much talent every draft, either by trading picks or missing on them.

rather be "Mid" than picking 8th...

Mid isn’t the problem. It is the result of ineptitude.
THAT is the problem.

Other than the Brunson signing, Rose really hasn't shown any ability to substantially improve the team. Draft zero, FA signings zero, trades zero.

The Pacers are on the market for a big wing.

https://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/273911/Pacers-On-Market-For-Big-Wing

Ahead of the Indiana Pacers semifinal game in the In-Season Tournament, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported the team is thinking bigger than just the inaugural cup win. The Pacers are reportedly looking to add a "big, athletic, two-way wing" on the trade market.

According to Wojnarowski, Indiana is willing to give up draft picks and young talent to get such a player, because they believe they can keep that player long-term. Pascal Siakam and OG Anunoby were again mentioned as potential targets for the Pacers, as they have been for nearly a year now.

Following the Pacers success in the In-Season Tournament, Tyrese Haliburton made it clear that he was recruiting other stars to join him in Indiana. Haliburton believes that the Pacers can build a contender with the right talent on the team.

As a collective, RJ, Grimes, Deuce, and IQ all good picks. Same to be said for Mitch, even Sims.
iHart has been a great pick up, as was Brunson.
The Villanovettes (Hart, DD, and to a lesser extent that Arancini guy)

The most important thing that we have done is what we HAVEN'T done.
We DIDNT mortgage all assets on a B tier star.
We DIDNT throw away draft picks on role playing vets on the decline
we DIDN'T add any albatross contracts.

Getting Brunson was sort of an odd blessing. We got him for free, but it cost us a real purpose for some of the elite names out there (Dame, Spida, even Hali)

Now I think us actually making our picks is tricky. Thibs is very methodical with how he promotes talent. A guy has to falter to consider the alternative. He also doesn't put any stock in getting guys a chance to get their feet wet. Jacob Toppin MIGHT be a guy. We won't ever really know unless 3 guys get severely injured.

Other teams have a pipeline. Nuggets lost Brown, got Braun and now they have another rookie who brings in life.
Warriors finally have an impact rookie in Pods.
Heat have JJ.
Other teams find a way to make their picks work out and have value.
We took an 8th pick and put the guy behind our star player only to get limited chances. Ironically, a parallel could be made with Jermaine O'Neal behind Zach Randolph, being traded to Indy for Dale Davis.

All this trouble and "mid" team, yet we still have a reasonable chance at making the #4 seed. we can't beat Boston nor Milwaukee, but we don't fear anyone else.

If the right trade comes along, that could be all we need to launch into contender status.

Rudy Gobert has been averaging 18 pts, 16 rebs and nearly 4 blocks a game for the past 5 games. I remember some of you said you wouldn't trade Mitch for him. I wonder if y'all have the same sentiment now.

I wonder if Thibs ever thinks about poaching some things from Minnesota's schemes. Defensively as well.

The thing we can't replicate from them is that Mike Conley is their ultimate connector guy. Just a true PG.
