Tyson Chandler trending on Twitter.
I think we are overpaying but I agree Chandler could be the difference maker with his defense.

The length of Amare and chandler would help us tremendously. Why trade him for Paul ?? The lakers won their last 2 with length down low and a great scorer on the wing. We don't NEED an absolutely great point guard. We can get by with a good one.

JBerg suggests Mario Chalmers as PG option for Knicks. Not bad for a 7-year-old.
No to Chalmers, he can't run an offense.

Amare, Melo and Chandler.....I dont see a damn thang wrong with that! Folks will want to come ball with that frontline
Deal not done yet but I agree with you. As much as I like billups this is a huge upgrade for us. There is no negative here...

Of course it does.
Takes them under the cap.
They'll have the new $2.5mle instead.
I thought this was determined at a specific point in time, like if you're over the cap at the start of the offseason you get the MLE.

Any word on how many years?

Maybe I'm jumping waaaaay ahead but if Chandler is on board this all of a sudden looks like the kind of roster a certain grey zen master might like. You don't need a great point guard to run his system. Just a thought.

If shump down the road works then..
shumpert/fields/melo/stat/chandler would be a BIG(in terms of size) lineup

Da_Mane_Man wrote:what about the toe injury that canceled his trade a few seasons ago? is that completely behind him? it was thought to be career threatening.
what about the myriad of other injuries he's had during his career?
what about the fact that he's never been seen as a "dominant" defensive presence until last year when he joined a dallas mavericks team that hasn't defended well in a few decades?
this certainly smells like an isiah move. a guy has one good year and we sign him to a rediculous contract. jerome james 2.0
don't get me wrong, i would LOVE a defensive center here, but not at the risk of handcuffing ourselves for years to come.
I don't get how people are overlooking ALL of these factors. People laughed at dude for asking for Max money and suddenly this move is a home run now? I'd rather make a run at one of the other major C's on the market offering 10 million to the first taker between Dalembert, Gasol and Nene.

Doubt it. The way it's worked it sounds like you can reduce salary, but only by adding years onto a deal.
So a 4 year, $60m deal, could become 6 year $60m deal. They player isn't reducing his salary so much as he's stretching it out.
Meaning you'd not only renegoniate the salary, but the years as well.
As it applies to Melo and Stat, they could reduce their salary to try to welcome in Paul, but they'd be biting into future earning years, which I doubt they do.
Unless this new provision allows team to pay them over a longer period of time, but also let them sign new contracts after the expiration of the terms of the original one, I can't see it as being much use.
