Big whoop, both teams just set themselves up to not win a championship possibly in the next decade with a move like this so to an extent, I consider this to be a bad move for the Sixers and Nuggets regardless of the talent they received. If the ultimate goal for a franchise is to win a championship, why help a superpower to even more powerful?

The real question is how are we set up to win a championship?

At this point, by hope and prayer.

We must hope Melo outplays Kobe, Tyson outplays Dwight, Amar'e outplays Pau, Kidd/Prigioni/Felton out play Nash.

Not necessarily. The Lakers are an OLD TEAM. Old teams have trouble staying healthy in May.

The Lakers are so old, in fact, that I can't believe that Orlando didn't demand an unprotected #1 in '17 (since I assume '13 and '15 are already committed to Phoenix).

Have you seen our team and our teams health history?

From the press conference
Dwight hasn't even been cleared to play ball yet. I'm pretty sure the back is probably not career altering but it will be interesting to keep your eye on.

I think Brooklyn was Dwight's "preferred" destination the same way New York was Nash's "preferred" destination.

b/c it helps their teams

PHI gets the 2nd best center in the league
DEN gets a great wing defender and another piece to run and gun

both of those teams are good enough to not tank, so they just took the next step to win

small market teams can either moan (CLE) or try to get better (DEN and PHI)

New Lakers center Dwight Howard just said, "I can't run right now" and didn't commit to a return date following his back injury.

the back is a tricky thing. sometimes surgery makes it worse.

From what I've heard you never get your back cut into and are ever the same.

Sam Amick

Dwight Howard, when asked about his surgically-repaired back that reportedly may force him to miss part of the beginning of next season, doesn't sound too confident that he'll be ready at the start of the season. He tells reporters in Los Angeles: "My health is great. I'm getting a lot better, a lot stronger every day. I'm looking forward to the doctor saying you're free to play. I can't wait for that day...…There’s no timetable right now. Whenever he says ’Dwight, you’re free to play,’ then I’ll get back on the court. Until then, I’m going to continue to rehab and get my back stronger. I haven’t lost any weight, which is good, and I’m looking forward to getting back on the court…Well, you know we’ll see what the doctor says. If I’m ready for opening night, then I’ll be there, but I’m not going to rush it. A back is very serious, so I want to take my time and make sure I get back a hundred percent, because I want to give everybody a hundred percent. Not eighty, ninety percent. I want to give you guys everything I have.”

Right. But I'd be more worried about getting past Miami than having to face the Lakers in an NBA finals.

Could explain why Orlando chose to take what they could, while an offer was still on the table.

Can we get into the Playoffs and out of the First Round please? Before we beat the Heat and go toe-to-toe with the Lakers in the NBA FInals, how about winning two playoff games first?

Exactly. Take it one step at a time. I believe this team as currently constructed could potentially make deep runs, but let's not get ahead of ourselves here.

See...told yall this deal only looked good on paper. If Dwight loses his explosiveness, LA is screwed. He cant even run yet.

LAKERS ARE PAPER CHAMPS.
