Re: Trades and Transactions thread - To the offseason!
Vanvleet seems like a great fit if we can get him around that 18-20 million dollar price for 3 or 4. He allows flexibility moving forward because he can play the point guard but he can also be paired with a bigger point guard and play off the ball as a secondary ball handler, as he often has with Toronto. His shooting would complement RJ and Mitch, and his defense is excellent which I think is often overlooked due to his size.

FVF sounds good at a decent price; Wood also. Can we afford both? And assuming one of our draft picks is decent, does that leave us with at least a mediocre team? (mediocre = .500 41-41)?
FVF RJ (Draft pick?/Randle for now) Wood Mitch

Why not both? Lock up the big man rotation (assuming they’re serious about moving Randle).

I think that could be a .500 with the potential to grow. I wonder what Wood will command in free agency though? One of the reasons I like FVV is that he would work with whatever position we drafted. He could start along with LaMelo and we could move RJ to small forward. IF Wood is too expensive plug in Bertans or Gallo on a 1 year deal and you could go LaMelo/FVV/RJ/Mitch with whatever power forward free agent you want to plug in.
Or if we took a forward you could have a FVV/RJ backcourt with our draft pick, Mitch, and free agent forward of your choice.
In either scenario ideally Randle could be moved.

Could we afford to max out Ingram 28 mil, and still give Woods a 16 mil contract? Not speaking on the odds of Ingram but I would like both offers to go out the same day.

Re: Trades and Transactions thread - To the offseason!
I'm not sure with unrestricted free agency how that would work as far as Ingram and Wood. If they had the sense that New Orleans wouldn't match I would absolutely max out Ingram. Seems like NOP would match, but I guess there's a chance all of the financial instability the league is experiencing could alter teams decision making... not sure.

if the FO chooses to be active in FA, I'd like 1 of Malik Beasley or Bogdan Bogdanovic. both are RFA's, so curious to know what it would take to pry Beasley from the Wolves

There’s something with the CBA that limits what can be offered to him by SAC (54 mil, I forgot how many years) - I just remember I learned about it on Duncd On (assuming they’re right)
I think someone is going to pay him and steal him away from SAC

In an ideal world I think every team should have 4 bench guys who can play 1/2 , 2/3, 3/4, 4/5.
PG SG with a bench guy who could play with either
SG SF with a bench guy who could play with either
SF PF with a bench guy who could play with either
PF C with a bench guy who could play with either
Grant and Woods would accomplish the last part. We just have a lot of other issues to iron out unfortunately

I think the limit is about what sac could give him last year on an extension. The player refused. Now he is RFA.
I almost sure SAC could pay him any value as RFA player, matching any offer.

I think you’re right it’s related to an extension.

Small vote but...
On a rich 1 year deal, second on a team option. Whatta you think?
"Acquiring a "stretch 4" to put next to RJ Barrett and Mitchell Robinson, the current building blocks of the franchise, would be wise; it would open up the floor and provide the duo with the NBA level spacing they lacked on the 2019-2020 squad. The "guy for the job" is Danilo Gallinari, the former Knick and current Thunder forward who, this season, is shooting 40.9% from three-point land on over seven attempts per game - I wrote two weeks ago about why Knicks fans should keep an eye on Gallinari once the NBA restarts in Orlando, as did Chip Murphy for Hoops Habit."

if the FO decides to get some vets to help win now, I'd go Gallinari, but my 1st choice would be bringing back Mook

Re: Trades and Transactions thread - To the offseason!
I think we will get 36M of cap room in a 100M Salary Cap Scenario if we waive all of the unguaranteed salary possible and get no luck in the draft (57M guaranteed salary + 7M in FRP).
We have to acknowledge that we will enter in a Bid War against the current teams of all the better targets because they can (salarywise) and they look motivated to retain their players. We hope they get scared by the salary drop and lowball their players. Or the players choose Knicks over their current teams. We will not choose the players. We will be chosen by them.
Fred VanVleet: Toronto (birds) - They can be cheap if they hope grabbing Giannis in 2021.
Cristian Wood: Detroit (Cap Space)
Jerami Grant: Denver (birds) They would pay a lot of luxury tax if they want to keep Milsap too. But it can be woth because they are ring contenders.
Davis Bertans: Wizards (birds)
Marcus Morris: LAC (Cap Hold 18M) They would pay a lot of luxury tax if they want to keep Harrel too. But it can be woth because they are ring contenders.
Danilo Galinari: OKC (birds). They might loose the interest if they trade CP3.
Joe Harris (birds): They might want to saving luxury taxes if the cap goes down.
The situation regarding RFA players is way worse. They dont have the option to chose us over their current teams and their current teams have a time to match any offer we make. If our rival match our offer, the better targets might be gone and we would be forced to use the money in whatever has left. If their current team is cold feet about the cap drop, its easier for both parties to do a sign and trade (what cost us assets).
Ingram: Pelicans (RFA). They already said they will match. They are a small market teams that cant attract many stars.
Malik: Wolves (RFA). They have traded assets to get him. They are a small market teams that cant attract many stars.
Bogdan: Sac (RFA). They are a small market teams that cant attract many stars
