Has anyone seen this? (Yi Jianlian Potential Trade)

The Nets are close to moving Yi Jianlian.

They are working on a deal with the Wizards that would send Yi and cash to Washington for a player who makes “significantly less” than what the Nets’ power forward earns. Three sources confirmed this could happen.

The player could be Quinton Ross ($1.14 million) or one of their draft picks. Yi makes $4.05 million this season. Either way, the Nets are close to getting Yi’s salary off their books.

The Nets would do this to get as far under the cap as possible so they potentially could sign two max players. Yi for Ross would save the Nets close to $3 million and put them around $30 million.

Let me get this straight. And I'd like opinions on this. They have a young power forward that showed flashes last season in Blatche. He's presumably the starter. They draft Seraphin, a power forward. They trade for Booker, a power forward. And now they're going to acquire Yi? That's insanity.

Washington has become the resident town whore. If you got the cash, Washington's got the time.

its gonna be a killer if we end up with nothing in free agency because there are a ton of building blocks available for nothing more than cap space

Inversely if we do end up screwed in free agency and still have cap space I think there are gonna be a lot of good players and pieces available this year and going forward for any team willing or able to pay them. players for trade exceptions and picks for cash seem to becoming more common

I'm not sure who New Jersey is targeting (realistically), but $30 million would be enough to get a MAX veteran plus somebody for $13.5M.

-Lee/Joe Johnson
-Amare/Gay

Something like that?

This news is worth changing the thread title to something more informative like "Nets trade Yi, now have $30 mil available."

Link didn't work for me... but this did:

In return, the Wiz are sending the Nets Quinton Ross’s $1.146 contract, which enables the Nets to increase their cap space to precisely $30 million – a nice round number that will get you LeBron James ($16.5M) and a stud who can start out at $13.5M.

Actually I think they're targeting LeBron plus Amare. I bet if they locked up Lebron that Amare would come for the remaining 14 mil.

The trade is Yi for Ross, Seraphin, or Hayward. They haven't said yet.

Good trade for both. Nets have more money when they fail and Wash gets a good player. Washington will prob make the playoffs this season.
