Maverick Carter, LeBron James' business partner, will be flying to New York on Wednesday to meet with the Knicks, according to sources that spoke with Tommy Dee of The Knicks Blog.

Dee also reports that MSG president Scott O'Neil flew to Ohio on Sunday.

The Knicks met with Leon Rose, agent for LeBron James, on Saturday, multiple news outlets have confirmed.

The meeting was to discuss Amar'e Stoudemire's commitment to New York, as well as a detailed contract explanation.

James was not in attendance at the second meeting.

Thanks. I completely agree. That was so far below the belt it's ridiculous. I don't think I've ever seen a tabloid article that was more blatantly spiteful, uncalled for, unprofessional and disgusting. It's insulting not only to Donnie Walsh in his present condition but to anyone with any kind of disability at all. It would be horrible if someone who was by consensus very handsome said it but for a guy like Wojo to have the gall to say such a thing makes it even more baffling. He should be ashamed and quite frankly he should be forced to resign because that isn't journalism. It's disgusting insensitive mudslinging and there's no place for it. I don't care what kind of agendas people have, it's flat out wrong.

Agreed. It really bothered me that Walsh had to answer questions about this to the media and that this small-time loser of a 'journalist' tried to humiliate a basketball executive who has devoted his whole life to the game.

In fact, several league executives believe that the Knicks' apparent failure to lure James to New York led to their decision to offer Stoudemire a five-year, $96 million contract after the five-time All-Star turned down a similar deal from Phoenix that was not fully guaranteed. "(It) wreaks of desperation," said one league executive. "They know they have to do something."

Possibly losing out on James is a crushing blow to the franchise that has suffered through nine straight losing seasons and sacrificed the last two years to clear salary-cap space in order to make a serious play for James. Stoudemire would soften the blow a little since he is one of the top free agents on the market, and the Knicks still have enough cap space to add another elite player either through a free agent signing and/or a trade.

No one from James' camp has commented publicly since James met with the Nets, Knicks, Heat and Clippers over the past two days in Cleveland. The Knicks made a two-hour-plus presentation on Thursday, the first day of free agency, and according to a source, James was not nearly as impressed with the Knicks as he was with the Nets, whose traveling party featured the rapper Jay-Z and billionaire Russian owner Mikhail Prokhorov. "That's not how the presentation felt to me when I was in it," Knicks president Donnie Walsh said. "No one connected with his camp said that."

The most likely scenario has James re-signing with Cleveland for three years, which for the Knicks is the best alternative to losing him. The Knicks' doomsday scenario would be for James to join the Nets, who are expected to move to Brooklyn for the 2012-13 season. James has other options as well. The possibility of James joining Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh still exists, and Friday Wade had a second meeting with the Bulls and is contemplating signing with his hometown team with the understanding that James will also come to Chicago. The Bulls and Cavs are meeting with James Saturday in Cleveland. The Knicks were in contact with James' business manager Maverick Carter Friday and are not giving up hope until the reigning two-time MVP announces his plans.

can of peas wrote:whoops, posted at the same time. still, it's still anonymous sources, although this one seems to be coming from "inside the knicks organization". I don't agree with the "other league executives" though- if anything, signing amare should make us more attractive to lebron. he fills an obvious hole we had in our roster (center) and gives him a teammate that is better than anyone currently on any of the other suitors.
