Drafting Bismack Biyombo?

I'll be honest. I haven't seen him play, only what I've seen on youtube. But looking at his physical attributes 6'9 240 7'7 wing span, he just seems like the perfect guy to take a flyer on in the middle of the draft.
Positives
-Long, athletic big man
-Excellent rebounder, shot blocker
-Huge wingspan
-Getting decent playing time in the ACB
Negatives
-Still raw
-Needs more experience, strength
-Still needs to work on his offensive game
Biyombo is a huge draw for NBA scouts and GMs. Very few of them have seen him up close. He's a 6-foot-9, 245-pound Serge Ibaka-type player with a crazy 7-foot-7 wingspan. He's been playing well in Spain of late, and every week he seems to be creeping up NBA draft boards. If he has a big tournament against the best American high school prospects in the country, he could easily be a lottery pick.

yep, since I've seen him listed high on Draft Express, he's been in my mind. We need a Center, he might be the best one when we pick. Cool name too.
We should have some good players to chose from.
Billips / Douglas / Carter
Fields / Douglas / Walker / Rautins
Anthony / Shawne Williams
Stoudemire / D. Brown /
Shel. Williams / Turiaf
We need a strong big man C/PF.

Since D'Antoni arrived I think the knicks have put more emphasis on international scouting. We got Mozgov because of it and also drafted Gallinari, both solid moves in retrospect. So I could definitely see them giving him a long look...

We've been talking up good ol' Bitchsmack in the Draft thread.
Yes. Donnie should pick him or Nogueira. But he wont. Might not even be there.
I think we'll end up with Jimmer, one of the Morris twins, or Justin Harper if Dantoni has his say, which Im hoping he wont. The only way this team is going to win any rings is to get a game changer at center. We dont just need some solid role players we need a GAME CHANGING BIG MAN. At our pick the only two guys who have that kind of potential are Bizmackie and Lucas Bebe. The problem is they are both 18 years old and raw. Do we have the patience to develop them? I honestly dont think we do, which is a shame because they are our best shot at a ring unless Dwight comes or you want to overpay Samuel friggin Dalembert.
Even if we have to wait a couple years like Kobe did with Bynum it would be worth the chance rather than settle for mediocrity. Look at Perkins, Ibaka, Dally, McGee, DeAndre, and Tyson too. They all started producing pretty early (2nd/3rd years). If you got talent you got talent no matter how young b/c being tall is a skill in this game.
Its been 10 years.... GET ME A CENTER already.

Still, he's not tall enough to play C.

Ben Wallace?
It's not all about height for center...it's about strength (which he has), huge wingspan (which he has), and a huge reach (which he has). 6'9 in sneakers is fine IMO for our center...especially playing the way he plays - he goes after every rebound and pushes people around in the post. People forget he's only 18 also...so it's very possible he grows another inch or two.

I say no just because of his name. He sounds like a bust...

If he's 6'9 with strength and wingspan that's big enough for Center in today's NBA.

Ben Wallace is exactly who comes to mind. He went undrafted and went through two teams before he came into his own. When he did, he was one of the best centers in the league. We are not going to draft a stud that every team in the league is after. We need to find a hidden gem and develop him into the player we need. I agree, at 18 he is going to grow and those freakish arms may get longer. Put me down for taking a chance on this kid.

Yup. 7'7" wingspan is ginormous, an inch longer than Javale McGee. Plus, if he's only 18 with that kind of wingspan, there's still a chance he can grow another inch or two. He's definitely on my radar.

Would not take the risk.
For every Ibaka, there are 4 Thabeet/ Sene's.
Faried is the closest person to what we need, be his is only 6"8.
If he were 6"11 then he would be a top 10 pick IMO.
Cheap centers to target- Nazr Mohammed, Joel Przybilla, Jeff Foster
I think Foster would be a great fit, he's big, hustles, and grabs boards.

The Thabeets and Senes do not succeed, or become busts, because they are too skinny and their frame doesn't allow them to become a defense force - Biyombo is built already, is possibly still growing, and has a mean streak when he plays (according to the reports) unlike the players you mentioned that are busts.
Faried is a good rebounder, and athlete, but he is an undersized 4 and doesn't have the strength to play the 4, let alone masquerade at playing center. He's not what we need...we need a guy who can play center, defend, and grab rebounds. Biyombo has the strength, wingspan, reach, and work ethic to become a VERY good defensive player. I'm officially on the draft Biyombo bandwagon (if Knight is taken).
I wanted us to get Kevin Seraphin in last year's draft because he fit a need, was a good athlete, and was strong as hell...and that didn't happen (trade for him lol). Now I want us to get Bismack Biyombo because he fits a need and is a perfect compliment to Amar'e.

Very good post. Never thought of it like that!
