{Build-a-Team 5.0 Signups} Order - Rules - Announced
Any chance we can get our annual one rolling right around now? We won't finish signups for another week or so, and I'm going to start a sign up list for the future.
As our seasons ends, a new one begins. The BAT signups will begin.
If you're asking yourself, what is a Build a Team? Here is your answer:
viewtopic.php?t=1038353
I want this BAT finished. I've been a part of all 4 BAT's, and I'm determined to get this one finished. We need a new set of rules, a more broad set of rules, and more customization options. We can do this.
Anyone can join, however, teams will be given to seniority owners, and veteran posters 1st. After that, than the n00bs can join in on the fun.

Rules
B.A.T. 5.0 Rules:
Note: Points System likely to be reallocated based on Polling rather than Judging. Also, starting with this BAT, we will return to old setup of no SIMing. This BAT will also mark the allowance of GMs to select the 2010 Draft Class...all during the regular 12 Round Draft.
Draft:
1. How many Rounds will there be?
We will Drafting a Full non-IL NBA Team here. Meaning there will be 13 Rounds of Drafting for each of the 12 ACTIVE Roster slots an NBA has and 1 Coach.
1a. GMs can now select Coaches in the regular Rounds as well. No limitations are placed on the type of Coach selected. You can select them as if you they were a regular Player in any of the 13 Rounds. They will be listed in the regular Draft and in a separate section as well. Teams are limited to ONE Coach selection, so choose wisely.
Note: Coach selections MUST consist of a coach who had a coaching position (head or assistant) during the 2010-2011 season. No retired or college coaches.
2. What about the 3 In-Active slots (or Injury slots as they used to be called)?
After the 13 Rounds are over, we will have a quick "first come first serve" setup where everyone will have an equal shot at Free Agents left to fill out their last 3 spots of their Roster.
3. How long do we have to make each Draft Selection?
- During Rounds 1-5 you will have 6 Hours to make your Pick. The countdown starts from the Timestamp of the last person who picked before your Pick. So for example, if Team A makes their selections at 8:30 PM, Team B has until 4:30 AM to make their Pick.
- During Rounds 6-9 you will have 4 hours to make your Pick. The countdown starts from the Timestamp of the last person who picked before your Pick. So for example, if Team A makes their selections at 8:30 PM, Team B has until 12:30 AM to make their Pick.
-During rounds 10-13 you will have 2 hours to make your Pick. The countdown starts from the Timestamp of the last person who picked before your Pick. So for example, if Team A makes their selections at 8:30 PM, Team B has until 12:30 AM to make their Pick.
4. But what happens if a Team doesn't make their Pick in time?
Just like we did in Build a Team 1.0, and just like they do in the NFL...your Pick will be skipped, and the next Team will be on the Clock starting immediately at the end of your timeslot.
So for example, if your Pick was supposed to be in at 4:30 AM, and you didn't make it, then the next Team immediately goes on the clock. Also, just like the NFL, the prior Team still has a chance to make their Pick at any time. It becomes a situation of who posts their Pick first between the two Teams gets that Player.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Roster:
5. What Players are eligible to be on your Team or be Drafted?
Any player that was/is on a 2010-2011 NBA ACTIVE roster. Any Player Drafted in the 2010 NBA Draft.
6. But what about Draft Rights? And can we circumvent the rules?
- We will try to avoid international players in order to avoid any judging issues in the future.
7. What's the maximum number of Players each Team may have?
Each Team may not carry more than 15 Players at any given time. If you are over that limit, you will need to cut the amount of Players necessary to bring you back into good standing.
8. When can Players be cut, and how are they put back into the Pool?
- Players can be cut as soon as the 13 Rounds of Drafting are complete.
- Cut Players will have 1 Day of "Waiver Clearing" before they can be picked-up by another Team. This is done so that every Team has a fair shot at a Cut Player. The countdown to clear "Waivers" begins the moment (timestamp of post) at which the Team that owns that Player cut him.
- Once you cut a Player you cannot rescind it, as the "Paper Work" has already begun.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Trades:
10. What about Trades, when can they start happening?
Trades can be made anytime after the 1st Pick is made.
Picks may be traded before the draft begins.
11. What can be Traded?
Any Draft Pick in the 13 Rounds may be traded at any given time after the 1st Pick is made. BUT, you must send out the same number of Draft Picks you receive. This is to ensure that we don't have the problem we had in Build A Team 1.0 where some Teams did not have the same amount of Players as other Teams.
12. Will Salaries be taken into account with Trades, meaning will Salaries have to match?
- During the 13 Round Draft, Salaries in Trades WILL NOT be taken into account. Players can traded for any other Player regardless of Salary difference.
- After the 13 Round Draft, Salaries WILL be taken into account, so make sure you take that into account.
13. What if a Trade is deemed too uneven (IE: lopsided)?
If the League deems a Trade too uneven, it will be tasked to any 3 Judges to vote on whether the Trade will go through or not in a separate Judge vote Thread, that will be linked back into this Thread for future record purposes.
14. Can future Draft Picks be traded?
No. No team may trade a 2011 or beyond Draft pick at point or in any Trade during this Process. This is to ensure that all Teams have a level Playing Field after the 1st Year is complete, and to make sure one GM doesn't do an "Isiah" and screw his Team in the future. This is also to ensure things don't get too complicated.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Roster Spots 13-15 "Auction"
-You are not required to take part in this section, unless you want too or your Roster requires you too (based on what is outlined below).
-At all times you MUST have 12 Players that are under an NBA Contract.
-You can pick no more than 2 Players on the 1st day I start the "auction", and no more than 1 player the next day, for a maximum Roster of 15. You don't have to pick 2 or 3 Players, you can pick just 1 or 2 if you want, as long as your Roster isn't violating anything.
-You don't have to have 15 Players, but you must have AT LEAST 12 under Contract (see above), meaning they're playable.
-Salary Cap and Salaries go into effect once the Round of 12 is over...and as I mentioned before Sham Sports Salary #'s take precedent, followed by Hoopshype.
-We'll start the "auction" 9 AM Monday. It's a first-come first-serve format.
-In the event that GMs bid on a Player at the exact same timestamp, then that Player will be "locked" (meaning off-limits from others) and can be re-selected beginning at EXACTLY the same time the next day.
-It'll run until about Saturday or so (giving everyone enough time to round out their Rosters).
-Any GM/Team that does not have at least 12 "Playable" Players by the time Judging/SIMing starts and Rosters are locked, will have a Player(s) assigned to them at the Commish's discretion (and trust me, I won't start with cheap Players)
-After that, either the SIMing or Judging will start.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Judging & Determining a Winner:
**********IMPORTANT**** READ ENTIRE THING*******
- We will select a total of 10 Judges for this BAT. We will find mods and posters with high approvals to join us in our efforts to complete the judging and BAT. These judges will come from all over the RealGM Message Boards to get as little bias as possible.
- Each of the Judges will rank the 30 Teams based on the following (as you get lower down the list each factor is to weight less than the one above it). A Total of 50 Points allotted for this criteria:
- Contending Team - Judged on ability to contend/win. If judge feels a team could win the championship and is the best team out there, then the judge will award that team 25 points. From there, the judge has the ability to make "judgements" on how close teams are to being a champion. 25 Points
- For The Future - Has a young promising nucleus that is the future of the League. 10 Points
- Cap Management - Maintained good Cap Management in building their Team (set to the current real life NBA Cap). It's Okay to go over the Cap, just realize that points will be deducted for teams that did not manage cap well (tied into too many unfriendly contracts, over the luxury line by a lot, etc.) People should not forget that many current NBA teams are over the cap so it won't kill your points to be over.10 Points
- Roster Management - Built a Team that has Stars, Role Players, and/or Young Talent & Vets. 5 Points
Each Judge will go through the Team, and for each category they feel the Team can compete in, they assign that Categorie's points to that Team, then add them up at the end. There are 4 Categories in total. They would repeat this Process for each Team.
Example: The Hawks. Using a fake hypothetical roster, let's say they get 20 points in the Contending Team category. They didn't pick many young promising Players, but they have a couple young developmental players (i.e. Ibaka) so they receive 3 points. They were smart with their Cap Management (see above), so they get an additional 10 Points. They were smart with their Roster, and they get an additional 5 Points. So the Hawks would get a a final vote of 38 out of a maximum 50
In the end, all Points from the Judging Criteria will be tallied, and the Teams will be ranked from Most Points accumulated to Least Points accumulated.
The Maximum total Points one Team can have is: 50.
As our seasons ends, a new one begins. The BAT signups will begin.

Didn't we alreay do a signup a little while back? Either way I'm down, I've been in all the rest. Can't remember which team I took last signup though so I'll just go with the Lakers this time around.
