KB2011 MOCK: 5th Pick Raptors Select Jonas Valanciunas

As with the Cavs, the Raptors were left high and dry by the defection of their own superstar Chris Bosh. They do have some nice young talent on their team in Demar Derozan and Ed Davis along with Andrea Bargnani so all is not lost in Raptorland. So...who's their guy?

Selected already

1. Kyrie Irving
2. Derrick Williams
3. Brandon Knight
4. Enes Kanter

I changed my mind. I think they'll go with Valanciunas. Looks like getting him out of his contract is not a big problem and also reports are that Colangelo and the Raptors love the guy and apparently see nothing wrong with having him, Bargnani (who would eventually move back to PF if he's not dealt) and Ed Davis in some sort of a rotation at the power positions.

Are you confusing Jonas for Motiejunas?

I'd take Kemba Walker, who imo is the bpa here and PG is a position of need for Toronto.

I thought long and hard on this one.
Kemba would be a good choice but I think they plan on giving Bayless a real look there. Bayless has the tools to be much better than Kemba when it's said and done. Vesely would make sense as well but they have Kleiza and James Johnson at the 3/4. They're loaded with 4's in Davis, Amir and technically Bargs...Colangelo has stated he wants to see what Bargs looks like playing next to a true center. Jonas makes sense here.

I voted for Kawhi Leonard, he's a hybrid forward. Dude is a defensive, reboudning beast in the mold of Shawn Marion and Gerald Wallace. It makes sense too, they have the pure PG with calderon, the scoring PG with Bayless, the future 2-guard with Demarr and a solid frontcourt with Bargs and Davis. They need a SF. I know they say don't draft for position, always draft the BPA. but i think in this case, Leonard is the BPA and he just happens to play SF.

Raptor fans on realgm seem to be very high on him as well, they started a Kawhi Leonard bandwagon thread.

I went with Kemba because PG is a question mark for them but I still am not sure. Could easily be Valanciunas. Because right now they still have Calderon and Bayless. Im not sure what they're gonna do.

Kemba is a ball-dominant, little guard that can't shoot and doesn't have very good court vision. He is very, very overrated.

I could see Leonard there as well but they'd be right back in the lottery next year. They need a game changer.

Byimobo is their guy easily he can play center so he will be a starter immediately and he's playing the in the second best league in the world after the NBA (the ACB). The guy brings energy and intimidation into their front court with shot blocking. He'll bring instant change there and he's only 18 years old with reports saying he could possibly be 16 because of a bone marrow test saying he isn't done growing despite standing at 6'10 with a 7'7 wingspan. Despite that length he has good upper body strength and thick legs but he can still obviously put on more.

Did you really watch Uconn? His mid range shot is money and he gets into the lane at will. He'd be a pg who can drive in the lane and stop on a dime and knock down that mid range shot almost always uncontested, or he'll get into the lane and dish off to an open big man (when the defense collpases on him) or mayke the layup and get the to the line alot. His 3 point shot isnt the best around, but he CAN knock them down and I think he'll only get better in the NBA.

I can understand someone questioning his pg skills, he'd played the point at Uconn for streches but played off the ball alot as well because nobody else on that team could score as well or create for themselves like Walker could. Walker create for himself and his scoring threat playing off the ball aloud him to create for others. In the NBA i can see him running a team that has decent scorers as soley a pg, and if he has to score he can still do it. His situation at Uconn this past year leading an extremely young and inexpeirenced team to an NCAA championship has really given him a bad rap as a pg imo. The kid is extremely talented off and on the ball, as a combo gaurd or as a pg imo.

O-ver-ra-ted.
In the NBA, he's gonna have to get that thing off against grown men. He isn't a freak athlete, dead-eye shooter or quality distributor. I don't see him succeeding as a lead guard and definitely not as a shooting guard. He is a volume shooter at the point guard position. His game is suited for a bench player; a energizer and sparkplug. Is he better than Calderon? Is he better than Bayless? His bread and butter in the NBA will be his speed and toughness. He's easy to root for but let's be for real. DJ Augustin compares favorably to Kemba but DJ can shoot and is a capable floor general. And with that said, HE's having trouble as a starting point guard in the league. Can Kemba guard NBA guys? Rose, Westbrook, Rondo, Chauncey, Holiday, D-Will, etc? Does he project to be a better guard than say, Toney Douglas? I'd say no and I predict he will slide. And as for the question of whether or not I really watched UConn....damn nearly every time he was on TV. Not just this magical season either, so while I do appreciate his progress and competitiveness, I am a realist and don't believe he's an NBA starting guard on any team.
