Fredette Intrigued By Knicks' Style Of Play
May 20, 2011 10:23 AM EDT
Image

Jimmer Fredette, the BYU 6-foot-1 sharpshooting point guard, told The Post at yesterday's pre-draft camp here he has agreed to work out for the Knicks in Westchester on June 2.

"It's a team that's definitely intriguing especially with their style of play," Fredette said yesterday. "Being able to get up and down the court, that's what we did at BYU. That's how I feel comfortable playing. Obviously, being from New York and liking the Knicks growing up, we'll see."

Can Fredette fall to 17 or would the Knicks have to trade up a few notches? Because of Fredette's alleged defensive shortcomings and questions on whether he is a floor general, Fredette could slip despite his blistering 28.9 scoring average.

"My expectations are trying to be able to get into the right fit for me," Fredette said. "I don't necessary care how high I get picked. I just want to get picked in the right situation. That's the longevity of your career.
If you get picked in the right spot, you have a great system you flourish in, the next contract is what you worry about. You just have to get in the right situation, show you can play well and go from there."

i went with Brooks, but i think we're gonna have to trade up to get him. if we go as far as the pistons pick, then i guess i go with bismack or burks.

If we can acquire the Pistons Pick, then I want Jimmer (and pray that the Kings didn't take him). If they did, then I want Klay or Knight (assuming Knight fell to #8).

I think you should add Vucevic in there somewhere. Maybe take the "Trade Out" option out? Vucevic seems to have a pretty strong following. Just sayin.

Ha and we've been calling Motiejunas "Motie" not "Dotie" :D.

I really don't like that pick by sacremento.... He and evans will be like combining oil and water. Unless they feel the only thing fredette will be good at is as a spot up shooter. He's more than a spot up shooter. And if he ends up in Sacto I'll feel bad for him but that's what he gets for killing it in his workouts and not shutting it down so he falls to NY. JK...

I can't see SAC either unless they have a trade on the board where they ship out Evans.

Though I like Jimmer's game, I do think the type of teams he can succeed in are limited. He needs to be the third scoring option and in an uptempo offense.

klay would probably be a better fit, but i prefer Brooks game and Burks's upside.

Bismack is worrying though. big time Bust Or Bang.

as far as Jimmer, i think the Board catch phrase is fitting, " i wouldn't be mad."

I'm actually shocked that people like Vucevic, I just don't see it at all. I thought he would be a flavor of the week type thing, but he does got a little following.

Naah, everytime we post a new Thread every1 has an opinion on the Poll Options. What I posted above is what I C&P from Moocow.

Vucevic falls under Moo's "Who Else Do You Want at #17". Draft is a Week away, and by Moo's Screenshots and prior posts, those are the top guys. Jimmer himself isn't there anymore in the Polls, because he and Biyombo fall under the "Trade Up" option.

Just sayin. ;)

Who are your guys MP? I know you like Motie.

Vucevic is a solid last resort type pick if all our other options fall through to me.

yeah, I don't see him ever being a starting quality player. Seems like a career bench player.

vucevic seemed to be picking up steam in the last thread so maybe he deserves an option? (not that I would vote for him but I think I counted at least 5 supporters). anyway I had a reply typed up in the other thread and then got denied- but luckily the back button still worked:

TrueWarrior wrote:
can o peas wrote:If he were actually a real center, I wouldn't have a problem with him at all.

I was talking about Vucevic with the Camby man comment. Kieff is Crazy Eyes.

Look Markieff isnt my top choice or anything. Im still a Jimmer/Klay guy. Im just saying I wouldnt mind taking him. Vucevic is bigger but hes not as athletic, tough, or as good a defender as Markieff. I do like Vucevic though, and as a last resort Id like him as the pick too. He would give us a legit center, but I just think Markieff is going to be better.

Guys I would like with our first pick:

Biyombo
Jimmer
Klay
Burks
Motie
Tristan
Markieff
Brooks
Vucevic

Guys I would like with another pick:

Selby
Shumpert
Tyler
Jenkins
Harper
JuJuan
Lighty
Reggie
Darius
Reed
Lee
GSmith
RJackson, etc

Thats where Im at.

ah ok. I know people are looking at backups with the pick, but I think we have enough potential holes in our starting lineup that we should shoot for a potential starter. melo and amare are locked in at sf and pf.

I have the centers at: biyombo, donatas, tyler and vucevic

then the guards at: brooks, selby, klay, burks etc. (a lot of guards in the draft)

I think kings fans are pretty psyched for jimmer, even at 7 (and some of them are even worried he won't be there ha)

edit: ok, saw your post mags. whatever works.

I mean I like a bunch of em, if I had to make the list.

1- Alec Burks
2- Bismack Biyombo
3- Jimmer Fredette
4- Klay Thompson
5- Donatas Motiejunas
6- Marshon Brooks
7- Josh Selby
8- Chris Singleton
9- Markieff Morris
10- Jordan Hamilton

I mean it really seems that Burks, Biyombo and Motie are sliding a bit where as Klay, Jimmer and Brooks are rising.

I voted other: Vucevic is my pick, Knicks need a 5 more than anything..

Ive read that some scouts are saying theres not that much of a diffrence between Kanter and Vucevic.

Probballdraft:
Right now the most available picks in the lottery are Timberwolves (2), Kings (7), & Rockets (14).

I would trade Fields/TD/17 for #7...

...and later buy a second rounder or two!

But yea thats pretty much the same as my list. Im not a fan of Hamilton though.

Singleton and Faried are wild cards.
