Most importantly, read this:

A new "renegotiation and extension" provision allows an existing contract to be renegotiated so the player is paid a smaller amount over a longer period, but the player's salary cannot decrease by more than 40 percent. Renegotiations previously could only increase a player's salary.

BAM!, Amare, Melo and Chandler can all take huge pay decreases and extend for more years, allowing them to lower their salary for CP3!

Assuming MELO and Amare make 20 mil per, thats an 8 million dollar reduction they can each take next year, for Chandler, it would be a 6 million dollar reduction. Assuming they all take 30% less and extend for more years, thats an additional 16 or so million dollars we can offer cp3!

i thought of this before, but didn't realize there was a rule that said they couldn't take less money. i just figured no one wanted to do it.

now that the rule has changed though, things become a little more interesting. i doubt amare or melo would want to take less money though. definitely not chandler.

1. I'm sure you'd still need to keep it within the new max years and max salary per year so we'd only be able to extend Amare and Melo one year. So it's minimally effective for guys like Amare, Melo and Chandler.

2. I would imagine you would still have to work within the limits of the new CBA in terms of max increase per year. So it's not like they can take a lot lesss now and then back load the thing like crazy (i.e. Melo and Amare if you guys take only 25% of $20 million for 2012 we'll give you 175% increase in 2013).

I think this is only really for guys like Elton Brand and Emeka Okafor who might have only 2 or so years left on their beefy per year contracts and be willing to renegotiate down the total amount of the contract PER YEAR but add on a lot more years.

problem is were giving chandler practically a max deal. so theyd all have to take SIGNIFICANTLY less not 2 or 3 million like wade and james
