I'll give you that one, but I don't think Lin wants to be defined by his Asianness for the rest of his career. Apparently he was assaulted by slurs all throughout his college career.

Haters are gonna hate. The same reason why Lin was never recruited heavily despite being the best baller in Cali. I root hard for the dude. My favorite Knick of all time is Starks, another guy nobody wanted with an improbable story.

I was listening to the game on 1050 radio in my friend's ride, the broadcasters did say Linsanity and I thought that was cool.

oooooh! i like it!

and i believe his streetball name is "soy sauce."

i too wish we could come up with something that did not necessarily play to an asian stereotype. but shao lin is dope because of the new york connection.

and i love the bow. very gangster.

he's a harvard boy... how about "the professor?"

again, i know that's already a streetballer, but it's fitting. something that works with lin's education could be sweet.

i also like "the guy," from half-baked, as a reference to having slept on landry fields' couch on the eve of his career night.

I was going to suggest "Noodles", I like that name (no racism intended), it just sounds like fun (Dick Tracey) but as someone suggested earlier, "Shao Lin" is awesome.

Oh this is easy. I just realized what I'll call him

Sensei

I know it is Japanese, but it rolls off the tongue better than Shifu

Just to be clear...I'm pretty sure Lin has accepted the fact that he is Asian. As long as the nicknames aren't mean-spirited, I don't think he would get offended by giving him a nickname that represents his culture.

If you are Asian, and someone nicknames you dragon and that offends you, I'd like to know why...perhaps you have some personal beef against dragons.

Its not a bad thing for people to be different, and if others are being playful, and not hurtful in acknowledging those differences, then I think that's better than the alternative, and a step in the right direction.

Some people may find it unsettling, but no one is attacking anyone here. I just felt like posting this before we have 12 pages on why everything is racist.

I'm Asian. And I am not offended by the Melo Chinese bow at at all. So Shao-lin is ok for me. it just rolls off your/ and mine tounge better than the other nicknames. I mean, He is a smart dude, It's not like he will be affected by a dumb racial comment. If he doesn't like it, then he'd let us hear about it in an interview.

We call Americans all sorts of things here to y'know. You don't have to get conscious and tentative about how you call us. I guess it's really about how you understand and judge each other's sense of humor.
