Our best chance to get rid of STATue

The brooklyn nets will be desperate to get a "star" to 1. Make Dwill want to resign, 2. a name player who they can put on boards going into a new arena.
The nets will have 20 m cap room in which they can absorb amare's contract and the Russian dude might just be crazy enough that he might gamble on amare's uninsured contract .
Amare+cash for Anthony Morrow?
2012 FA power forwards just to name some:
KG
Duncan
Ryan Anderson
Humphris
Ersan Ilyasova
Jamison
If we can sign Ilyavosa using the cap space that will be freed from amare. resign lin and novak.
Chandler
Ilyasova
Melo
Morrow
Lin
will be a much better team with ilyasova and Morrow both shooting 43%+ from three

If we want to trade STAT in the OS, we will certainly find takers. A team can trade for him and then Amnesty him, which I think is likely to happen, if we do decide to part ways.

our best chance of getting rid of amare is to put his locker next to the fire extinguisher and hope it beats him up

Teams can't amnesty a player acquired from a trade. forbidden.

Why isn't this in the other trade thread?

thats correct but I think there are a few teams that would do anything to acquire a big time scorer and marketable player like amare.
Houston
Nets (keeping deron)
Golden State
there are plenty of teams with bad enough contracts that might take a chance on amare.
If we win game 3 and melo looks real comfortable at the 4...as much as it pains me we really have to look at trading amare in the OS.

People have too much fantasy sports on the brain when they think up things like this. Seriously, life is much more complicated, and you can't just all of a sudden move players for giggles or you don't like them. But, feel free to keep thinking this. Might as well have a fantasy view of sports, if it makes one feel better. Nothing will happen, but you think it might. Or, if it doesn't happen, you can be smug thinking you are smarter than the current management and know better, because in your hypothetical universe, Knicks go undefeated under your genius.

I'm not convinced we can get much for Amare. That contract and his horrible season might put him onto "Rashad Lewis" territory at this point

I would take G wallace for him now, would be a much better compliment to Melo because Wallace can guard 4's. I would also trade him for Brand and Evan Turner.

Gerald Wallace is an expiring contract, and he might even be a FA this summer.
Philly does that...why?

While we're talking out of our asses, let me add that reducing the cap by $20m would put the Knicks about $15m below last year's NBA salary cap, but it would also mean that Lin, Fields, Novak, and Baron couldn't be re-signed with exceptions.
In other words, you can't trade Amar'e for an exemption and then sign another FA like Ilysova without also losing cap space for our own FAs, most notably Lin and Fields.
But like I said, I'm talking out of my ass.

Why does NJ take Stat when they have Hump and Brook?

Also, I really doubt NJ can absorb $20m. They're gonna want to re-sign Deron, Wallace, Hump, and Brook. Our only hope is that one of those guys doesn't want to stay with the Nets.

at this point, after watching how bad our pg play is and how hard it is for our team to create shots, id trade amare and lin for deron. then, just sign a bruising power forward who can rebound and play a little d and let melo and deron go to work.

Lin isn't getting traded

of course he isn't. im not predicting the future. i'm just saying that it could be a good basketball move. think of what billups did to denver. they unleashed a declining AI for Billups and immediately became a really good team in the west. it's not going to happen but it doesn't mean it isn't the right way to build. do you really trust the knicks way of building? imagine if they didn't get the number 1 pick during the ewing years. they would have been like this since the 70s.

We can play that game forever with every team.
The team as it stands right now, when healthy, is very good. We don't need Deron. Lin is fine at the 1. We need Amare to focus up and come into next season without all the baggage he carried this year.
