Spurs' Ginobili expected to miss 3-4 weeks

Post#2 » by nyshakespeare » Tue Apr 2, 2013 1:32 am

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/spurs-ginobili-expected-miss-3-172240095--nba.html

SAN ANTONIO (AP) -- Spurs guard Manu Ginobili could miss the start of the playoffs because of a strained hamstring that is expected to sideline him three to four weeks.

The timetable released by the Spurs on Monday comes a day after Ginobili did not play in an 88-86 loss to the Miami Heat. The 35-year-old Ginobili injured his right hamstring in a victory over the Los Angeles Clippers last week.

The regular season ends April 17. San Antonio is 1 1/2 games ahead of Oklahoma City for the top seed in the Western Conference and may now have to protect that lead without their third-leading scorer. Ginobili is averaging 11.9 points and 4.6 assists.

Huge blow to the Spurs, but I don't think they would need him to beat the Jazz in the first round.

Rooting for a Boston and Pacers loss.
And a Bucka win.

Iggy is worth much more than Gerald Wallace is and I don't understand how Wallace re-signing with his own team makes a difference in our comparison. There will be more than enough teams with cap room to sign Iggy which provides a market for him to push against (Without big time FAs out there) to get MUCH more than $6 mm.

Ultimately, I think he re-signs with Denver anyway, lowers their total cap number, but guarantees him three years of very good salary.

The home team always pays more, Wallace couldn't sniff that money in the open market, and his intention all the long was to continue to make what he previously did, which is why he doesn't equate to the topic at all.

Iggy though if he leaves Denver is leaving 16 mil on the table in one year.

He would have to make over 10 mil starting for that to make any sense.

The most he can get without Denver's help is 4 years, 5 via S & T.

He'll be essentially playing for free in one of those years due to his opt out.

If you were him, how much would you have to get on your new deal in order to opt-out? He will never get a 5 year deal so let's throw that out.

New thread, brought the convo here.....

There's no way I leave 16 mil on the table in this CBA, unless I'm an established all-star with league wide demand.

Once I opt out I threw that money away, at 16 mil not worth that money, it's near impossible to recoup that.

You don't throw away 16 mm though, you throw away the difference between 16 and the contract you get for that year AND contract certainty going forward for 2-3 years especially when the free agency class after yours is loaded.

If he can get 10-12, he's basically paying a 4-6mm tax on ensuring he gets 10-12 mm for the two future years which is an understandable economic choice.

Damn. 7 Around the NBA threads with the previous 6 all going over 100 pages (I'm assuming). And for that, I apologize to any moderators and/or posters who had a vision for this thread during the offseason while I thought the best idea was to create NBA Game threads (per night) for opposing games. I wasn't accustomed to change and I was wrong for that. These around the NBA threads are much better than I ever expected. Lucky number seven. My favorite number. Looks like thread number seven will become our postseason push thread. The best for last.

Milwaukee's up on Charlotte 83-76 with 5:00 remaining of the 3rd quarter.
Minnesota's up on Boston 80-71 with 2:46 remaining of the 3rd quarter.

A Bucks win along with Celtics loss and Boston's only 1.5 away from falling to the 8th seed.

And of course we have Indy @ Los Angeles C's come 10:30.

That's assuming he gets 12 in that first year.

Look at this way...

Next season he's due 16 mil, he could in the contract after get above average wage salary and make more than he would getting paid 12 in an opt out.

16 + 7+ 7 + 7+ 7= 44 mil....i use 7 mil because average salaries go up every season and 7 would be likely 700G's more than average.

Be honest, what teams is paying Iggy 10 mil + other than Denver? Keep in mind he'll be 30 before the first year is up.

Holding that 7 as the constant lg avg salary, then, he has to make at least 10 mm for 3 yrs to make the same over a 5 year period. On top of that, in addition, he gets career certainty. Insures him against a bad injury or even just an awful year.

If he gets 12 per for 3 years, then I think it's a no brainer and a reasonable decision at 10.

Oh man. It's bad for Boston. Just lost to the 26-46 Timberwolves. Down 10 with only 2:00 remaining. Milwaukee's also up 20 points which means for Boston, they're only 1.5 away from becoming an 8th seed. Too funny.

Boston will be only 2 games over .500 and only 1 game up on the loss side for 8th place.

I'm sure his agent will know what the deal is going to be before he opts-out but who knows (see Elvis Dumervil).

Yea, it's looking ugly for Boston moving forward. And Paul Pierce missed tonight's game due to an injury? He's expected back next game but it's downhill for Boston. As a New Yorker I'm loving every second of their demise.

No problem and now it's GAMETIME! Been waiting for this game all night. INDY @ LAC. I can't remember the last time we've been 1 game ahead of Indiana but an Indy loss gives us just that. 1 game ahead of Indiana. Well .9 to be exact along with being two ahead in the loss column. These Clippers are fighting for postseason positioning (seeding) so Indy should get their all. LAC's 28-8 at home while Indiana's 18-19 on the road. Not looking good for those Pacers.
