Eric Bledsoe and JJ Redicks

Post#1 » by twix2500 » Mon May 20, 2013 12:21 am

The Knicks backcourt was god awful, and they do not compliment the core of Amare, Tyson and Melo. The Knicks need to find away to get Bledsoe and Redick. Bledsoe has the talent to become an elite point guard, and Redick will provide that deadly three point shooter that will create space for Melo, Amare and Tyson. Knicks just need to find a way. Shump, JR anyone outside of Amare and Melo should be on the table.

I'd like them but Shumpert is better than both.

JJ Reddick was terrible with the Bucks...especially the playoffs. No thanks.

With the Bucks? Its not about how he fitted with the Bucks. Its about how he would fit around the core of the Knicks. The Knicks need a guard who can stretch the defense consistently. Because there was no consistant backcourt shooter, the Knicks had to resort to forwards to stretch the defense in Novak and Copeland. The problem with that is one of the big three had to be taken off the court or played out of position. Shump and Felton do not stretch the defense and Smith is too inconsistent to be a starter.

Redick is a free agent who is coming off a contract that paid him $6M this season, and might be looking for a raise. The Knicks can't offer more than the taxpayer mid level exception, which will be $3.183 million for the coming season. I doubt he's going to come to NY for a 50% paycut when he's looking for a raise. And the Knicks can't offer him more via a sign-and-trade because they're over the apron and can't take free agents in a S&T.

Bledsoe is still under contract with the Clippers for another year. He might be on the trading block, but I'm sure the Clippers will receive better offers than whatever the Knicks come up with. He's scheduled to make $3,726,966 next year. What do the knicks have of equal value in that salary range to trade match? And even if the Knicks do trade for him, he'll be a free agent after next year anyway. That means a raise if you want to retain him. Such a raise would coincide with the Hell Year where Melo/Stat/Chandler's contracts are at their max value. Those luxury taxes may make it even less likely that you'll be able to keep him even if you do trade for him.

The Knicks are a capped out, aging team with little future financial flexibility till the next rebuild window when Amar'e, Tyson, and all the other 3yr contracts like Kidd and Camby and others come off the books.

It is what it is. This group is what you'll be stuck with for the next couple of years. There will be some tinkering around the edges with Minimum salary guys where you can hope to find useful roleplayers that you can rent for a year like Prigioni or Copeland, before they either head for higher paydays after showcasing on the Knicks or bust out like White. And you might have a draft pick here or there, that will not be expected to contribute to a "win-now" team. And then you have to pray for development from Shump, along with health from declining retirement age old guys stuck on your books.

But there will be no major free agent acquisitions like JJ Redick looking for more than $6M, or trades for well-performing, cheap rookie contracts like Bledsoe without giving up equally valuable cheap contracts like Shump and picks (and even then Bledsoe might still be more valuable than Shump plus picks to other teams).

This is the "win-now" team you're stuck with for the next couple of years. Everyone's contract is timed to expire at the same time for the next rebuild (except Novak and Felton, who will still be around an extra year after the Melo/Amare/Kidd/Chandler/Camby contracts expire).

Are you related to Amare?

How does that make you better than the Lin, Gallo, and Wil fans who root for them over NY?

A backcourt of Bledsoe & Shump would be electric. Im not really too sure how good Bledsoe's courtvision is but I know he can break his man down without a pick, get to the rim and finish. Id do Felton+ Copeland & future 2nd for Bledsoe although I'm sure thats probably not enough.

Shumpert (if he keeps developing offensively and doesn't have serious knee trouble in the future) is going to be the future of this franchise after Melo is past his prime. He can be what Paul George is now, if not MUCH better.

You are going to be very disappointed in shumpert one day bc of your outsized expectations.

I don't think Shump is going to be a franchise player. But I think he can be a good number 2 or 3 guy. I think he'll improve offensively the way Paul George did this season. Defensively, he's already a stud.

15 PPG, 4-5 REB, 2-4 assists, 2 plus STLS, 38-40% from three, and all-NBA type defense is a pretty realistic expectation at this point. Woodson has to keep him away from playing SF though. Let him hound opposing 1 and 2 guards like he's supposed to.
