OT: NFL Draft tonight

Post#1 » by poeman » Thu May 8, 2014 4:25 pm

Lets talk about the best draft event in all of Sports. Yes, the NBA is the only one that rivals the NFL draft but it just isnt as exciting and awesome.

What are you guys looking for tonight? I see the depth and potential for some crazy stuff going down today with players dropping and rising.

I'm just waiting for the first pick and to see what happens to Johnny Football. Manziel can reasonably fall to the 2nd round or go top 5. And with the first pick Jadaveon (could end up just as good as Robert Quinn, who is the best defensive lineman I've seen since I started watching football in 07) or Khalil (who is about as good as Von Miller) next to J.J. Watt (who might be the best defensive lineman ever -- like seriously it's just him and Reggie White). Damn the Texans are going to have one of the best pass rushes ever no matter what...

And shout out to the Eagles. Just when things are turning around we dump our 4/5th best player over nothing even after keeping a racist scrub. God we suck.

Really hoping the Jets draft Odell Beckham, Jr from LSU. Perfect fit for the West Coast offense.

Jets have so many options that it's almost scary. Lee, Beckham, Cooks for WR and there will be some decent CBs available as well. I want to go WR because I think there are 5 legit starting NFL WRs in this draft, but I could easily see Idzik filling the CB hole and hoping one of the WRs falls.

I'll flip over every once in awhile, but its too long for me to follow.

Thinking the Giants might go with Offensive Line (Lewan or Martin) or Defensive Line (Donald). A LB (Mosley) would also be nice.

My guess is Zack Martin

Yeah, where Johnny football goes, and what Houston does should be interesting too

I heard Mike Mayock on with Joe and Evan on the FAN this morning saying that he thinks the Jets should go with a CB with the 18th pick because this draft is so deep with receivers.

I will flip out if we draft a CB in round 1...FLIP OUT..>We need a WR bad and we need to get next best one after watkins is gone

Wouldn't that be Evans?

Dennard is the only CB I'd want to take over a receiver. I still would rather have any of the top 5 receivers though. I'm just saying, I can see the logic behind grabbing the best CB in the draft with the 18th pick.

The top 2 CB's (Dennard, Gilbert) may both be gone by 18. The next crop of CB's arguably would not be at the same level as the next crop of WR's after the top 2 WR's (Watkins, Evans) are gone. I don't know that reaching on a CB cause you need one makes more sense then picking a WR or TE that are projected to be right around your draft slot simply because there are more WR's or TE's is necessarily the best option. If Dennard is still on the board at 18, then sure absolutely.

What I would like to see is the Jets try to consolidate picks and maybe either move up or get another 1st (slightly higher than 18) by trading multiple lower round picks. They have 12 draft picks. It's unrealistic to expect that they would be able to keep and use all 12 (and have all 12 make the roster). Would love to see Idzik trade multiple picks for another 1st round pick maybe a little higher than 18 to get Dennard the CB and then use 18 to draft a WR.

I would prefer Brandin Cooks over Beckham Jr or Marquise Lee. Cooks can create yards after the catch better than anyone in the draft and he's explosive in the open field. He also runs the ball (averaged something like 6.5yards per carry as a runner) and is an extremely dangerous returner (see ability to create yards with the ball in his hands by avoiding tackles along with 4.3 speed). Tough (never missed a game) and physical. Having QB's that can run will force opposing secondary to focus on them and allow Cooks even more room to create and gain extra yards. If Ryan wants an "attack offense" (what we've been hearing for years) then Cooks is an attack type receiver that will put pressure on opposing secondaries to chase down and cover.

I'd be happy if my Gmen take Lewan, Martin, Ebron or Donald. We need to fix the oline and protect Eli, who needs a damn TE but I think Donald might be the best talent of that group.

I would also be in favor of the Jets trading an arm and a limb for Sammy Watkins. I think he's an absolute game-changing WR. It won't happen, but I'd love it.

And just as I type that, I get a notification that my gmen would consider Manziel. Lol that would never ever happen, unless it's to trade him somewhere.

I could totally see them overpaying to trade up and draft him.

Clowney should be the first guy taken. 6'5" near 270lb physical freak sack machine DE's that can explode into the backfield don't fall.
