So far, what grade would you give Phil Jackson for this Free Agency?

I'll give Phil a C- so far. Lopez was a good pick up but we lack offensive talent. Afflalo is done and Williams is terrible. I'm not sure how Knicks will score over 85 on nights.

Incomplete. This thread is poorly timed, especially the way people are getting their underwear all tied up in knots after the Derrick Williams signing. Let's wait for the roster to fill out and then we can evaluate.

Given the market, so far, he's doing fine. At least he didn't get shut out like Kobe and the Lakers did. Be glad we're not them.

Before D-will i would give him a B. After D-will (which pissed me off, could have spent 5m elsewhere ala biyombo..) i'll give him a C. Disappointing.

And you were satisfied with the D-will Signing?

I'm not as upset over it as everyone else. I, at least, want to hear what Phil and Fish have to say about the signing. Also, this guy has played in two dismal situations. One with Minnesota and the other with Sacramento, two highly dysfunctional franchises at the time he was on their rosters. The guy was the no. 2 pick in the draft a few years ago. Maybe he'll thrive in a new situation with a new team where there's already a superstar on the his team who will open up the floor. But even if it doesn't work out, it's only a $5M/year hit over only 2 years. It's not the end of the world.

Let me ask you this? What other "realistic" option did you prefer instead of Derrick?

Like i said, i would have preferred biyombo which was signed for around 3m. Thomas Robinson.. you know.. capable players. Pretty "realistic" if you ask me.

Who knows, maybe we'll still get one them. But don't tell me that the difference in this coming season is the difference between Derrick Williams and Bismack Byombo or TRob. Please.

I'd give him a solid B at this point.

Weak signings arent better than no signings. if the Knicks were in the Lakers shoes I'd suspect folks would state "at least we arent signing bad deals anymore".

RoLo is OK, wouldnt have offered a 100% guaranteed deal though and Affalo got a raise despite declining play. And to deflect from Phil we're blaming the Derrick Williams signing on Mills and Rambis who never coached him.

But the thread does state "so far".

"So far" a few players Phil was interested in have reportedly said no either by actions or by speech. And I honestly dont recall too many instances where a high profile player flat out cancels a meeting with a team, yet has two with a team that reportedly bombed in the first interview.

So far, Phil has failed. i dont judge on what you do only, but what you dont do as well. Phil could not secure any of his primary targets. cats didnt even bother to give him a legit ear.

Biyombo signed for 3m per with Raptors, Trob signed 3m for 2 years for nets. No that's not the point, point is.. A player like Derrick williams shouldn't have costed us 5m. Money better spent elsewhere. Don't agree? Cool. Let's move on.

B for better than last years team. I think we've doubled our win total alone and thats without thinking about a healthy Melo, Porzingis, Grant and improvements from Early, Shved and Galloway.

Derrick WIlliams is still pretty young.... Rolo and Afflalo are two defensive minded players he picked up, Derrick Williams is an offensive player that is flawed defensively. I think I get what he's doing. I give him a B- for what we have, but his hands are tied since nobody wants to come here just to play with Melo. We absolutely do need another efficient scorer next to Melo and I'm hoping that's where our #4 pick comes in to play.

Like David Aldridge said... "If Generic NBA team added Porzingis, Jerian Grant, Afflalo, Robin Lopez & maybe Corey Brewer, it would be considered a very good offseason.'

I agree.
