Clyde on Melo: "Will he ask out?"

I'm sure Melo wasn't happy. His future is now. You know, he’s not getting younger. This is going to be a pivotal season for him to see really how he fits into the Knick plans and how this is going to go from here. Will he ask out, you know what I mean, if he sees that this is not happening? Because right now the Knicks, [it's] going to be tough to make the playoffs. They are a few years away and Melo knows that his days are numbered, so stay tuned.

Didn't click on the link... but based on the quote, there seems to be a disconnect between the topic title and what's actually quoted. Was there anything else more tangible that pointed towards him asking out?

I'd rename the topic "Clyde on Melo: "Will he ask out?" " ...As the article is aptly named.

Q: Can Grant be a solid contributor, a regular rotation guy as a rookie?

A: I think he’s going to start for the Knicks. It’s inevitable.

Here we go. Is Melo going to stick around for the process? Don't be surprised if he basically says 1 day "I want out, I don't fit here anymore." What will Dolan think if Melo asks out? Will that finally expose Phil that his system is flawed in today's game? All poignant but legitimate questions.

Your title is a bit misleading don't you think? How about as least put an "if..." or a "(maybe)" at the end?

Since we look like a borderline 8th seed in the East right now...would it surprise me if Melo asked out by the all star break or at the end of the season? Not at all. I almost expect him to do so if we finish with around 30 wins this season.

Wait. What does melo not waiting on a young team have to do with the offense? Lol

It's really inevitable that melo gets traded. I said from day one he won't finish this contract out here. He got his money. He got his no trade so he has final say in where he goes. We got to keep a valuable trade chip. Get to rehab and showcase him. It was best for both sides.

Another assumption on what Melo may do. When Melo resigned he knew this was not going to be a quick process.

An aging Melo asking out of a rebuilding process does not "expose Phil" or suggest that his system doesn't work. That makes no sense.

I really don't think Melo will want to go. I think he's gonna have a good season, and that the Knicks will have a surprisingly good season, and he'll be motivated to recruit his ass off next summer. If the Knicks can't land a big time FA next summer to really change the landscape of the team, then maybe'll he'll ask to be traded and Phil will gladly oblige.

Or, maybe KP shows this year that he's on the brink of superstardom. In which case, Melo might be pleased with him as a running mate. Would also help the FA process.

Either way, unless the Knicks are well below .500 again, I don't think Melo has the balls to make a big stink and create another "Melo drama" episode on a team that's hovering near .500 and has a chance to make the playoffs. Fans and media would destroy him for sabatoging a season where the Knicks don't have their own pick.

Yup. I'm not gonna lie, I'm pretty psyched about what he would get for him in a trade. as much as I'd like to keep him, I'd rather move him sooner than later to get the most value in return while he's still in his prime.

I did love this quote. Almost sounds too matter of fact. As goofy as Clyde can be sometimes, he is usually correct on his evaluations of players and what they should do to improve their games. If he things highly of Grant, I find that encouraging for the future.

Why are you anticipating a large haul? If Melo decides to leave, he will drastically limit the market with his NTC. Basically big market contenders.

Now, even if those teams are interested in acquiring him, what contenders have young talent and worthwhile picks to give up in a trade? Or expirings to provide cap relief? And if they have those things, could they give them up for Melo and still be contenders?
