Anyone else worried KP will never get a young sidekick to go along with him?

I've been thinking about this for weeks.
I've NEVER wanted to trade Melo or anything of the like and I think competing this season is 100% necessary as we do not have a pick, my issue is this..
After this season, we have all our first round picks and we would be primed to tank again to try and get Kristaps a sidekick to go along with his amazing potential. But everyone seems to want to go after guys to compete, and yes I am one of those people as well but its a conflicting issue for me because I really do want us to compete and give Melo a shot at something for the rest of his prime. But I do worry about our future after Melo is gone or isn't a star player anymore.
My big issue is this, after Melo leaves I really do not want to KP to end up all alone on a team with no help because we spent the majority of his young career competing in the playoffs with Melo(which I ultimately think only has a ECF ceiling in the next few years depending on signings).
I guess what I'm saying is I don't want KP to end up like Melo, Melo was too good too fast and because of that ultimately never got the help he needed and ends up getting the 'he'll never win' talks which is bull.
KP could end up in a similiar situation where the Knicks and him are too good too fast because of free agent signings and Melo and so he'll never get the young sidekick(Westbrook, Beal, etc) that he would likely need to win.
Thoughts?
I'm stuck thinking we should tank starting next season and wanting to compete for Melo's sake.

Melo never won because we used all of our assets to get him if we can get some assets we'll be fine plus like you said we'll have our first rounders.

I'm talking about Melo in Denver, he never got a good sidekick like KD-Westbrook, Wade had Shaq, etc.
Billups was the best guy and that was later on.

I'm not worried about that because Phil seems committed to doing things the right way and I think whomever succeeds him as President/GM will have that same commitment meaning that we'll draft wisely and not just piss away first rounders for quick fixes.

It's his first season...there's no reason to be worried, yet. Even if we are making the playoffs for the next 3/4 years (this year is doubtful), we will still have cap room and our own picks to get guys. KP will still be 23/24(?) when Melo's contract is up. That's still VERY young.

If they couldn't do it with a more competent FO when they had Patrick Ewing it will be much more difficult to do so with KP. You have to consider a number of factors in why it will be difficult for the Knicks to give Porzingis someone who could play along side him for many years. First, superstars of other teams usually stay with their teams unless they have a falling out. Second, the Knicks rarely have seasons in which they have real assets to acquire impact players. Third, the Knicks win now approach always costs them top draft picks, so the likelyhood that they draft another player of KP's caliber in the next decade could be slim.

Everybody so badly wanted to wait forever for a star in free agency. Now because of a 500 team it's Lopez and afflalo was the right way. It's a process now.
KP is ready to contribute to winning in a big time way now. Get Carmelo and he a guard. Trade everything. If this was fa working then it will work again.
Fournier
McCollum
Lavine
Jrue
Avery Bradley

I'm worried about us getting KP help so he doesn't end up doing it alone once Melo is gone.
Normally a team with a top pick can still tank the following years to surround their high pick with good young talent, we don't really have that luxury that is my point.

Hopefully Grant will develop and be that sidekick. With the current CBA it will be difficult to to find another young superstar sidekick. Shaq was fortunate during his day because when he became a free agent he was able leave pair up with Kobe and get his money in LA. KP don't have buddies that will take a slight pay cut to team up with him the way LBJ,Wade and Bosh did.
The organization will have to find anoher way to put elite players around him. It will be dificult but not impossible, it will just take time.

KP has the advantage of being an attraction while being on a rookie contract. It makes it easier to throw money at a big player.

so in other words ... your worried that the last move the knicks will ever make is draft kp and make him play with his current teammates the rest of his life?
of course were going to surround kp with players. salary cap goes up every year. u think were gonna stay put?

We're getting Okafor or Towns in a few years so i wouldn't worry too much about it.

I have faith that Grant will become a nice piece to the puzzle.
