So I'm having a debate with a few friends on which team is actually in a better situation.. The New York Knicks or the Philadelphia 76ers..

The 76ers may have 4 1st round picks in June and with all the cap space in the world (most likely to re-sign their own guys), but the Knicks have a team that could fight for playoffs next season and the best overall prospect (Porzingis).

Just an interesting debate we had and wanted to hear your thoughts.

All depends on Kristaps. As high as I am on him, the multiple options for 6ers would make me choose them. Not betting a ton on it but gun to my head, I go 6ers.

Knicks will probably be better in 2017. In 2018 and beyond, the Sixers should be better.

Our whole future is riding on KP. If he gets seriously injured, well, welcome.to another decade of irrelevance.

Long term view? 76ers tbh. New GM who will more than likely capitalize on all the assets Hinkie built up in
Philly. The possibilities for success are endless if they make smart decisions with the amount of high end asset accumilation they have. The one biggest factor might be if Joel Embiid actually ever ends up staying on the NBA court and somewhat realizing his potential which I'm not at all confident in happening at this point

Knicks are actually on the right track. Sixers are about to enjoy another 15-20 win season. If Phil hires Blatt or Vogel then I will give credit where credit is due and praise him.

The Sixers have a lot more assets but they really need to address their glut at the 4 and 5. If they can move any of their bigs for a guard, they can develop a very good core that can grow.

The Knicks lack the assets in comparison and pretty much depend on KP to be relevant in three years. When Melo slows down, who will help take up the slack for our team in the future other than Porzingis? We'd have to really hope Grant takes a step because yikes...we really have a lot of questions.

I take the Sixers based off their assets, but I really am not a fan of that roster.

Knicks are a much better situation. We are too close to Knicks so our view is tainted. Sixers have a ways to go still.

But I'm looking at question from pov of who is closer to championship. Neither team is close but Knicks have a few pieces in place and hopefully have a good coach soon. Sixers have a lot of question marks but yes they do have more cap flexibility and assets.

sixers just won the lotto.

The Sixers are in a position where they can make one big trade and become competitive. They have a glut of big men. The Sixers also just won the #1 pick so they can really do some damage now.
