“We always knew he could hit, but his defense has really kicked in,” a Mets executive told Mike Puma of Baseball America. “He is playable—more than playable—at first base. It’s too early to think about (the major leagues), but I think he is on the right track.”

"It's very noticeable—the kid is working his tail off," a Mets executive said. "Even talking to (him), his confidence is high. He's come a long way because he's worked real hard at it."

"His footwork has improved, and his recognition off the bat has gotten better. His backhand is good," a minor league talent evaluator said. "He has improved on popups and is working on glove-side grounders. His throwing is solid."

1. get my name out of your mouth
2. lugo has a partial tear of the ucl, the more he pitches the less effective he is.

but i know this information is too much.

Lugo: 6 IP, 2 hits, 0 walks, 0 Runs, 1 Win, First shutout against the Yankees this season

Yeah, let's relegate him to middle relief. Insanity!

I was right on with this call. Dom Smith deserves a chance after giving up cheeseburgers in the offseason.

middle relief is becoming a big thing again in baseball. gselleman, sewald, and lugo were all on pace for 100+ innings each and that’s by design

google josh hader

but again all this info is too much for your brain.

i can't even with you, relief pitching is becoming the new thing again -- as was baseball in the 40's/50's etc

andrew miller made it cool again, guys like josh hader and seth lugo(and to some extent gsellman) are showing how it's important to have great relief pitching that gives you length. lugo and gselleman can go 2-3 innings in a game and that's the new age of baseball.

a lot of teams do it now.

but here's josh hader's numbers, a relief pitcher who'll get a lot of votes for the cy young award.

21 games
35.1 innings
10 hits allowed
13 walks allowed
70 strikeouts

you think the brewers are like "damn he should be a starter" no! they're happy having a relief pitcher that can come in the 6th and give them 2-3 innings.

Who cares what the Brewers think? Should the Yankees make Severino a middle reliever? Should the Mets move deGrom to that role? No. Seth Lugo can be so good that we need him as a starter first and foremost. You can find guys off of the scrapheap, mostly failed starters, and turn them into successful middle relievers.

no because severino/degrom have shown they can be effective 3rd time through the batting order where as lugo has shown that he's not as good as the game goes on.

last year opponents batting average against lugo 3rd time through the batting order was .388, that's why he's a relief pitcher that has been very effective going 2-3 innings of dominance, and not a starter.

again this is too advanced for your old timey ways.

pitchers across the board are now going 5 innings(6 if they're lucky) because 3rd time through the batting order is a legit thing, which is why relief pitching has come back in fashion.

matz always has his meltdown inning when he faces the batting order the 3rd time.

if you can consistently get outs the 3rd time then you're a great/elite pitcher.

think, it's why we have brain.

reub thinking relief pitchers are only good for 1 inning, where as new baseball line of thinking is "why not have our good relief pitcher give us 2-3 innings as opposed to 1"

reub still thinks saves are an important stat. the contract to swarzak isn't an aberration, relief pitchers that can give you 2-3 innings are the true gem. nobody goes for the guy off the scrap heap anymore.

reub thinks your closer should always pitch the 9th, setup man should always pitch the 8th instead of understanding that you can lose the game in the 7th and bringing in your "closer" would be the smart decision.

reub still thinks baseball is a game of chess, saving your bullets because of the "what if" that usually never happens when baseball is now 100% data driven and shifts and batting your best hitter #1 and #2 are the smart decisions.

You know if you could be a little more civil to people you might get some respect back in return. But I don't think it's possible.
