Why didn't they sign some solid vets to larger shorter deals? Add Dudley and guys like that, you're looking at a 35-40 win team in the short term but on deals short enough that you can go full Hinkie after 2018.

As a Brooklyn native , I really wanted to root for the nets as my 2nd team. But I hated they way they tried to buy a championship instead of growing organically.

The could have

Favours
Kanter
lillard
Plus a few other first Rd picks but they mortgaged the future for a crap old team and nothing to show for it.

They were too concerned about stealing Knicks fans rather than earning them. Fack em.

EXACTLY. They tried to hoodwink and steal an entire fan base instead of actually GROWING a fan base of their own. Then they brought in Boston guys....Clyde would have retired as a broadcaster had we done that so soon after the battles we had with them. Would have given up my Knicks card had we put Pierce co in the Blue&Orange armor.

I mean on paper that was a pretty potent team...but just goes to show that it's not just about talent.

Was that a worse trade then Eddie Curry? If not, we really can't talk.

I wasn't going to watch these bums anyways (unless they play the Knicks of coarse)

Its probably a wash. Both teams mortgaged their futures for extended mediocrity. At least we are way passed it while NJ is still suffering.

That trade was over a decade ago and boy did we hear about it. Of course we can talk because that was in the past years and years ago. We are living in the present time and the Nets are going to still be paying the Celtics for that trade for the next 2 years. The Celtics still have a choice of a pick swap in 2017 (judging by the talent of both teams I would say it is safe to assume that the Celtics will gladly be doing that swap) and the Nets still owe the Nets a 2018 first round pick.

What makes the Nets trade worse is this

1. They traded within their division
2. They traded for guys who were already past their prime and clearly on the decline in their careers
3. They mortgaged their future knowing very well that they had a very small window of opportunity
4. 4 years of 1st round pick :o FOUR!

At least the Knicks only traded away 2 first round picks for a guy who was still young and had a lot of potential. The only reason Chicago even got rid of him was because they feared he had a heart condition and wanted him to take a DNA test so they can analyze his condition but Curry refused to do it. As far as being a prospect, the Bulls had all the intention of keeping him and he was regarded as a very intriguing prospect at the time.

They are going to be bad but we are not 10 games better than they are.

Yes, it was worse than the Eddy Curry trade. And regardless, of course we can talk. Folks were talking about Knicks trades for decades. Yammering on and on...many of them Net fans. No reason they should be shocked or appalled or expect Knick fans to not talk now.
