2017 NBA Draft Strongest In A Decade

Post#1 » by taikibansei » Thu Dec 22, 2016 5:04 pm

Not sure why this isn't being talked about more here. (Maybe I missed the thread?)

The 2017 NBA Draft will be the "strongest in a decade", according to multiple NBA scouts and general managers. Chad Ford projects 10-15 potential All-Stars in the class, headlined by Markelle Fultz.

We will likely be getting one of those players. Also, the NBA cap is going up more than expected, meaning:

Knicks will have plenty of salary cap room to build around Kristaps Porzingis.

Surely the bolded means the Knicks have the 16th pick on lock.

They certainly didn't say it about this last draft--and with good reason.

Thing is I'm not sold on any of these guys being franchise changing studs just yet. But, yes a very nice group of players with some potential deep into this draft.

The college threads, you mean one of the fifteen (15) stickies we have up there?! Just thought a thread not dedicated to how eternally doomed we are due to Noah's contract, Melo's obesity, KP's terminal anemia, Rose's character flaws and Phil's posse and peyote addictions might be in order--you know, a change of pace. Lock if you like!

No they don't. A few guys might get hyped here there, but the depth of the class really doesn't unless it actually is good

2014 was supposed to be really strong. '15 was actually supposed to be relatively weak past the top. Sometimes they miss a bit.

From what I've seen of this year's prospects, they look really good. Doesn't look like we'll be at the top of the draft so we've gotta do extra homework.

We have our potentially franchise-changing stud already. We just need to keep adding good pieces around him now. I really like how it's shaping up that this summer we'll be able to add another good young player through the draft and give a max contract to a FA and have a still productive Melo under contract for a couple of more years and have young(er) players who can contribute off the bench (like Willy, Kuz, Holiday and KOQ). As long as good decisions are made next off-season, we might be shaping up to be competitive for a long time.

The best part about this draft, though, is how deep it seems--we won't have to tank to get a chance at drafting someone who can contribute immediately.

The Thing about this Draft is that Even thoe on paper does look super deep, so many of them can be Busts or overrated on the list. I say the Draft has a lot of potential to go bad or good outside of maybe 3-4 players.

Agent propaganda

Do people think they will end up beating the 2014 draft class, which was not highly touted, but produced some pretty great young talent? Some of those guards are bound to bust.

Every player is a potential bust. That's why it's a futures draft. And since a time machine hasn't been built yet, then it's impossible to know what the future holds.

That doesn't take away from the potential though.

I'm just not in love with this draft like some. I think Fultz, Ball and Jackson are going to take some time to get accumulated to the NBA.

I don't think its propaganda at all. its a good class.

I did also Just check the 2014 class, and I count about 12-13 good players from it. So It would have to go deeper than that to beat it. So we will see. Its a good class to measure to how far the deepness goes.

Thing is I don't see the potential in Fultz that everyone else sees. I think he has some glaring weaknesses and instincts especially with how he can only finish with his right hand that will be exposed when he's getting challenged by the length of guys like Gobert and Porzingis instead of your average NCAA big men. And outside of him everyone else screams can be "very good" but, not great.
