I miss D'Antonio Margarito. I was wrong about him. Hoping Rockets win it all this year!

We mistread and mistreat everybody. We're Knicks fans. That's what we do.

D'antoni's main problem here was being stubborn and putting talented players in the doghouse. He's good at what he does, but the mark of a truly elite coach is adapting to your roster. Riley famously did it with the lakers to the knicks. Pop has actually done it twice (early duncan spurs days slow paced, pound it inside, later duncan days fast paced, lots of 3s, etc. and now back to slower paced mid range with LMA there). D'antoni isn't capable of doing that.

I'm sorry. D'Antoni's offense much like many, many Phoenix Suns' coaches before and after, are very entertaining but NONE have been proven to win a 'chip...let alone make an appearance in the NBA Finals.

Again, fancy numbers but when the playoffs begins and teams are forced into a half court offense, his style doesn't hold water.

BTW D'Antoni's offense ONLY works IF the player adapts to HIS way...not the other way around. Sure, the Spurs tweak their offense BUT Pops ain't putting up with Dwight Howard, Melo, or any of these guys who DEMAND the offense be tailored for THEM.

Again, read the ESPN interview, he asked Harden to change and he agreed. How many guys making $20M/year do THAT?!?!

Re-read what i wrote… maybe you misunderstood because i was saying those coaches (riley, pop) were truly elite because they adapted to their rosters vs. d’antoni not being able to do that.

D’antoni’s offense not working in the playoffs remains a false narrative, though. The 07 suns easily could’ve made the finals if not for horry checking nash into the scorers table, which got amare and diaw suspended for the next game. They would’ve been favorites over the cavs, too.

We never made the playoffs under him until 2010 came and we signed STAT who got off to a blazing start and had us in the playoffs with Felton playing like an All-Star. Felton never made the All-Star game. You know why? He fell the fuq off and with his fall off also came the fall of the Knicks record. That's why the Melo trade was pushed through in the first place. The team started free falling. Sounds familiar right? Uh huh.

Mike wasn't safe and everyone knew it. We wanted a defensive specialist coach for the dude. Ain't that why his ass was fired in PHX? Oh yeah, that's right.

Greenie, so how's Mike's defensive scheme now? How was it in Phoenix when he won close around 60 games a season?

It was crap in Phoenix and that's why he was fired. It's a little stiffer now than the 7 seconds or less era.

Dr. Detfink wrote:For all his faults coaching a gimmick offense, Mike D'Antoni was undermined on every level and wasn't given much to work with. Like the ESPN interview with Shelby mentioned, he asked Harden to CHANGE. Not many $20M/year guys will do that but he DID and that's why Houston is looking like the NEW Phoenix Suns.

Tough change. We're going to put the ball in your hands 90 per cent of the time and let you do whatever you want.

Let's see how much Harden would have changed if Dantoni said 'you're going to run to th corner and space the floor.'

I never sweated not drafting Curry because I know, I just KNOW Denver would have demanded Curry in the Melo trade and Knicks would have said yes. Having Curry and letting him go to see him become an All-World MVP would have been 100x more painful

I was calling for Pringles to get fired, I was at the front of the line...I hated his LEGGO coaching, especially on defense.

However, lets focus on the Melo trade back in 2011...I know the Melo trade finalized on Feb 10th, 2011...
Based on our schedule, we went through a rough patch after the big win against Miami. Amare was playing MVP ball though.

Do you think long term wise we would have found success with the guys we had or it's true what they say about the Basketball Gods...They hate us, so we would still stick if the Melo trade did not happen?

Well i think D'Antoni ruined the NBA, i hate the game today, 48 minutes of layup drills and 3pt shooting. Wasn't him alone, the rules are ridiculous, you basically can't put yourself in front of a guard. So yeah i couldn't stand the way Knicks played.

D'Antoni was what everyone knew he was, he even made an effort to accommodate Melo and made an effort of improve on defense. What else could you ask of him? Everyone knew what his style was. The blame is on who traded for a player that is against any type of effort, that can't be bothered to run or pass the ball. They are the ones who "misread" D'Antoni.

D'Antoni was winning with Lin plus scrubs and giving the Knicks fans the biggest excitement they had in 15 years, with Melo in the sidelines. That pretty much answers your question.

No and please stop saying this.

Curry would have been moved for T-Mac just like our actual pick Jordan Hill was.

Our failed run at LeBron cost us assets too.

Mike adjusted nothing having Melo go stand in the corner. Stop it.

He did the same damn thing to Gallo when he was here.

He hasn't changed. Houston's roster just fits what he wants to do. Ariza stands in a corner. That's the role of the SF in Mike's offense no matter who the SF is.

That's dumb.

IMHO Oil and Water

Pringles is spread pick and roll 4 out 1 in ball movement.
Given the right pieces.
http://thelab.bleacherreport.com/james-harden-mike-d-antoni-system/
"The biggest thing was, I knew that they already played this way," D'Antoni says. "And that [Harden] was the best playing that way. And he wanted to play that way. You can also expand that to ownership wanted to play that way, management wanted to play that way."
Pringles currently is on a team who has a superstar and a GM that share his vision.
Dantoni would do well with/ did well with
Westbrook(but not the Thunder), Harden, Lin, Lebron, Nash, Portland, Golden State, Olympic Melo,

Dantoni would do poorly with (current)
Memphis, the Knicks, Chicago, players like Jordan, Kobe, Melo(non olympic), Shaq

FYI I am just a filthy casual so have at it.

Ariza stands in a corner? Pretty sure everyone stands in the corner in today NBA. And yes he adjusted for Melo, are you serious? The only coach in this league with balls to try to impose something to Melo, the Knicks "savior" it's called Phil, Knicks GM.

Think for

If it wasn't him, someone else sooner or later would have adapted to take advantage of the new, soft rules that favored the offense. But I too have no love for Pringles or his system.

Lol no. Jordan Hill was a project big and never amounted to anything. Steph Curry his rookie season was a stud, and he would've flourished immediately in D'antoni's system. They wouldn't have given up Curry maybe a future first to clear cap space for Bron, and they weren't going to trade Curry for Melo or D'antoni would've quit on the spot.
