OT: Dunkirk

Post#1 » by Buttah304 » Fri Jul 21, 2017 10:30 am

Nolan proved once again why he is the best Director of his generation. After seeing countless war films I would be hard pressed to find another movie that reminded me of Dunkirk. For 1 Hour 45 minutes you have such a helpless feeling. The entire movie captures emotion without having to say many words and I haven't felt like I was on pins and needles from a movie in a long time. See it on 70mm.

I saw it last night in Imax too. Amazing, and didn't feel like you were watching a movie at all. My dad's a real WW2 buff (both of my grandfathers served during the time).

The original story was amazing before any movie was made.

That's why they used to call it "the miracle of Dunkirk".

It's a shame that it's taken this long for a movie to made re-telling this story.

I think that the only thing that the movie didn't capture was the epic size of the evacuation

What I love about Nolan is that it's obvious to the eye that THIS is the story he wanted to tell. Instead of making a 160 minute epic he decided to wrap his claws around a tight narrative that was under 105 minutes. I give him so much credit for accomplishing what he sought out to do without boring the audience or having them anticipate the action. From the first frame it's as if he DROPS the audience into the thick of it. Remarkable.

Yay! It's nice to think we were the good guys. I hope we can remain just that.

So excited for this. Nolan hasn't made a bad movie IMO (haven't seen Insomnia). I didn't love Interstellar or TDKR but they're not bad by any means and both have some really great moments

I've seen some reviews saying interweaving storylines were confusing. Anyone find this to be the case?

We haven't been the good guys in decades.

The movie straight sucked. A stain on the brave men who fought against nazi aggression during world War II. The dialogue was minimal and unimpressive, there was no character development, and the story lines were weak. Bad movie.

Your missing out if your not watching in Imax or a theater with good audio, the sounds of battle really made this movie an intense experience.

Actually the fact that the English weren't wiped out and were able to continue fighting was the victory

Thanks though

Ok

Study history

It's a pivitol moment in the history of Europe

Not all successes were battles won

Instead of being wiped out the english we're able to retreat and save their army. Had they not there would have been no - oh whatever

Obviously the original spoiler alert about the nazis losing was tongue in cheek

Perhaps you are German and humor isn't really in your genetics
