Marc Spears: Gerald Madkins leaves Clippers to become Knicks Assistant GM

Only thing I know before the Clipper times is that he worked in OKC for one season leading up to the 2008 NBA Draft, which is where he probably met Perry.

this is what i found about him

After his retirement from basketball, he acted as an assistant coach for California State University, Stanislaus, and for his alma mater, the UCLA Bruins,

In 2003 was named a player scout for the New York Knicks.

During the 2007-08 season he served as Director of West Coast College Scouting for the Seattle SuperSonics.

On September 10, 2008, Madkins was named Director of Scouting by the Houston Rockets.

In 2010, he joined the New Orleans Hornets as their Vice President of Player Personnel

On September 24, 2012, Madkins was hired by the Los Angeles Clippers as their director of basketball operations, reporting to vice president of basketball operations Gary Sacks.

In June 2014, Clippers coach Doc Rivers was promoted from senior vice president to president of basketball operations, and Madkins was named Director of Scouting as part of Rivers' restructuring. He was promoted to assistant general manager prior to the start of the 2015-16 season

houston should be no where near any form of power, he straight up went from being the guy to speak in charity/community events to potential being the gm.

all he knows is overpay.

Houston was the Assistant General Manager under Phl and Steve.

Remember the report of Griffin wanting to replace/fire him before agreeing to the job?

I like seeing that Scott Perry has been able to bring on board a guy he likes. We didn't hear about any squabbling with Mills or Dolan in the Post from Berman or from Asola, so that means there was no serious disagreement. It's a good sign from an organizational viewpoint about our new GM settling into his role.

Without knowing much more about Madkins' talent for his new role, I can't say what he will bring to the team. We have to hope that this move winds up showing us that Perry is a good judge of talent.

he does have quite the resume though. i'll take an experienced guy over houston all day

It seems they agreed to let him blend some new folks into the existing structure, and maybe he will remove one or two. Griffin wanted to wholesale change everything. I can understand Dolan not trusting a guy he hasn't worked with before to do that, after his experience with Phil.
