Any Scenario where we can get the Nets pick?

I know it sounds crazy, but hear me out.


Cleveland probably wants Melo. Love is a great player and obviously still effective, but Melo might be a better fit at this point, and, with his shorter contract, he's a better fit for the Cavs plans (compete this year, rebuild if (WHEN) Lebron leaves). So he could feasibly end up there.

Maybe it's just a pipe dream, but could there be any scenario where we land that pick in a deal?

I was dreaming of a trade nucleus like this:

Houston In: Kevin Love
Cleveland in: Carmelo Anthony, Houston first, another Houston asset
Knicks in: Ryan Anderson, Nets pick

Obviously Melo's value isn't high enough to "net" us that pick.

BUT, what if we sweeten the deal?

Is there any way we could possibly sweeten the deal enough? Taking on Ryan Anderson's contract is step one. His deal is a massive overpay. So we are shipping out Melo + taking on Anderson's bad deal. Say the Nets pick is valued as a 9.5 and Melo is valued as a 5, taking on Anderson's deal moves the needle closer.

What else could we do to get the value up there? Ship out a 2019 first round pick to the Cavs?


So, just to be clear so I don't get attacked, I'm not saying the trade as I have it is enough, I'm asking if there is any way we could do it.

Knicks in: Frye, Shump, Korver, Nets pick


That pick is basically a top 5 guarantee with some major prospects coming in. And, as much as I want Frank to stay round, it seems like he will be coming off the bench for us to start. I'd much rather be picking in the top 5 this season.

Of course, this is a pipe dream because unless Lebron commits to staying, Cleveland isn't letting go of that pick.

If we traded KP for the Net's pick, the Nets will magically become a lot better. So their pick would not be a lottery pick - it would be mid first round. Ugh! Talk about shooting yourself in the foot. But in this case, it would be a fatal injury.
