This is EXACTLY what I predicted would happen if Melo sticks around in New York. Losing for multiple straight seasons is going to do exactly that to your reputation. There is no way ESPN would have dared to put Melo below 40 if he was on a playoff team the last couple seasons. Of course, losing 50 games per season in a weak eastern conference is going to make a lot of people question the real worth of your 20+ points per game. Melo is thinking that he is doing the financially smart thing in keeping to his current contract. However in the longterm this may not be a smart move at all. Two more losing seasons here and Melo will struggle to get 5mill. per year on his final contract. In fact, after like 5 straight lottery seasons I could see teams only offering him the veteran's minimum or the type of contract that Rudy Gay signed. If he was smart, he'd have put together a list of 5-6 playoff teams , went there , enjoyed some good success over the next 2 years and then got a final decent contract.
I still think it is a mistake by him to not go for Cleveland. With Lebron they'll have an automatic run to the finals so that Melo's reputation would be somewhat repaired. A strong showing there and he could realistically opt out and likely command a final 3 year contract worth 60mill.

This.

People don't know how to separate what he was from what he is.

Huh? How did you get that from his post?

Most people think the list is trash, and he just wrote that he disagrees with the list.

So you disagree with the list too? He's disagreeing with the list. LIst is "Best Player in the NBA" not "Players You'd Rather Have Than Anthony".

Beck hit the nail on the head. They troll fans to get clicks, reactions, etc. Then you have the contingent of the media who salivates at a chance to ridicule melo. This isn’t about where you think he ranks. It’s about the fact that melo continues to be a cheap punching bag for those who don’t have anything better to say.

Even more motivation to ball out. His inability to play D and get teammates involved has really hurt him.

Lol exactly. At this rate, he'll be out of the top 100 next year.

On a serious note... it's ok. Melo doesn't have to be a top 15 player anymore at his age. He can still be effective and respected. His problem is that he thinks he has to be a scoring machine to prove everyone wrong. He doesn't f*cking get it.

I just keep thinking about KP and the young guys on this team. I cringe every time I imagine Melo out there taking shots from everyone else this year. Burning up offensive possesions and showing no effort on the defensive end. It will be demoralizing to his teammates once again, until the Knicks go on a horrid streak of losing and Jeff finally removes him from the starting lineup.

Has that D Rose mentality. I want to prove to everyone i'm still elite. I get it but sometimes its just not what the team needs.

My mind wants Melo to Ball out and we are good but my heart wants to see what the youth can do under pressure. The fact is Melo wont be here much longer. Balling out on this team does nothing for the future. My opinion.

I want him to ball out so teams work harder to get the assets needed to send to NY in a trade. Anthony turns Hoodie Melo into a regular thing, Portland, OKC and/or NO play great...we get some serious assets by shipping him to one of them...everyone moves on. The Knicks can survive having him on the team. Porzingis looks like he's full steam peacocking so I'm not really worried about him being stalled. Frank's game isn't the type to be stalled by Anthony. If anything it will press Frank into even more work and a faster track to develop (as a wing defender to compensate). If we were talking DSJ then ok maybe. Hardaway? Look. If Hardaway was the type of player to plan futures around then folks wouldn't have been as incredulous about his contract. Hardaway is a scorer, he knows what to do and it's what he's already been doing. He's not going to be deterred or defer enough to cramp is offensive game.

I won't even go back to read through this thread, but if you agree with Melo being ranked where he's at...you're an idiot.

I hope Hoodie Melo kills it this year on the court.

Jesus you forget how explosive this guy was. That damn surgery slowed him down.

Also there was a game he hit a game winner and just had a blank face.

I think he plays better with a chip on his shoulder. He went through a lot. I expect to see him ball.

Hoodie Melo is happening, isn't it? ESPN inadvertently does something positive for the Knicks by creating a monster (that the Knicks can then trade).

if kp has progressed and melo is balling out and it looks like the knicks are gonna make the playoffs, not saying they will, do you think they'll still look to trade him ? i say no. the playoffs will be the priority.
