I'm not Melo fan, but the stats say otherwise though Melo is trending downward and Barnes improved from the season before. Still, Barnes's PER was a career high 16.2 (his career average is 12.8) while Melo's was 17.9 (career average of 20.9). But I'm open to persuasion.

The Mavericks were actually better offensively and defensively when he was not on the floor last season. Anthony? The Knicks were better with him on the floor offensively, worse defensively. As far as "more willing passer", not sure how you measure that but Carmelo Anthony's assist% last season was 2x as big as Barnes. Barnes does not pass simple as that. In fact among players with usage rates higher than 25% (meaning he gets a lot of touches offensively) his assist % was among the worst for non C's in the NBA. Anthony, despite the reputation as a ball hog, is a MUCH BETTER passer than Barnes (willing or not). From an efficiency standpoint Barne's TS% was only 0.5% better than Anthony's even though Barnes FG% was 2.5% better...so they really aren't that significant a separation there either. Barnes is a better defender than Anthony is really about the only clear win. But forget that, at least with Barnes there's an argument that they are close. Some of the other guys in that range (before Anthony) are jokes. Danny Green? Malcolm Brogdon?

Barnes may not get assists, but he doesn't take bad shots. He gives the ball up. Agreed on brogdon and green.
