I'm still on the Miles Bridges bandwagon.....

I'm Bonga Brigade myself but this draft has some intriguing talent in the projected lotto for sure.

Yeah OKC got a deal, but they took a risk with one year rentals. There's only so much they would give away and maybe they didn't want to give the rookie away just in case.

Yes and it could be a better class than this year. I am one who is not on the tank train so whoever we end up getting should end up helping regardless.

I just realized that Hornacek was a assistant in Utah when Kanter was drafted there so they at least have some type of relationship already.

OKC was never trading Ferguson for 33 year old Melo. That second round pick has value. You can attach it to our pick to move up in the draft, you attach it to Lee/KOQ for a nice mid round pick, etc.

We are going to see a lot of pick and roll sets this year with KP, Kanter and Willy. Hopefully Hornacek goes back to a heavy horns set like he was using in Pheonix with KP fading, Kanter/Willy rolling with Beasley and Hardaway on the wings.

I have no problem with that. But people are saying we got nothing back, which just isn't true.

Who cares if he ever even plays? Or even lands here. Keep him healthy in case an injury makes him valuable to some playoff team dumb enough to trade for him.

no, its not

the 33rd pick or the 36th pick or whatever it'll be has significant value both in trade, as you said, and in players

The Knicks wanted to move forward. So did Melo. So they both got ultimately what they wanted. No debate there.

Melo would have been a Rocket had it not been for their insistence of moving Anderson, so he truly didn't everything he wanted.

Knicks got some younger pieces, not the ones they probably wanted, but the moves don't kill the cap and have another pick in next years draft.

I hear you. First off, not Anderson is great, but I'll pull the move lots of people did with Phil when he didn't trade picks. I see as not dealing for 2-3 years of extra salary on a lesser player as "GM 101". I EXPECT that move NOT to be made by an average, competent GM. Nonetheless, I gave kudos to Phil for clearing that low Knick GM bar of not trading picks, so I'll give a small kudo to not taking a crap contract as well.

That said, OKC gets relieved of a mistake contract (notice they shed Olidapo recently too), gets the better player, and the Knicks can't pull out more than McDermott (mediocre) and a pick around 33-35 in the next draft? It's an exactly average move. Grade C. Nothing terrible, nothing that great.

Understood, but I will ask one question...

Does that principle only apply to the Knicks and not the other team? The reason why I ask is because if it were us trading for a player that could walk after the season, we wouldn't want to trade a pick or a valuable asset for them.

I do agree though, not terrible, not great. Suitable.

You know what. I hadn't considered that Phil gave Melo a NTC AND a player option.

Makes the move a solid B, only because that lingering question as to if a team gets two year Melo or one year Melo hamstrung the Knicks, in terms of asset return. And I'd put forth that that player option, when only 1 or 2 years is left, hurt Melo's value WAYYYYY more than any nonsense Phil spouted in the papers.

I wonder who we target next?
Tobias Harris? Mario Herzonja? Moe Harkless? Kelly Oubre?
TLC from Philly? We need another wing. Kyle should have enough value to get a conversation started.
