OT: Do you look forward to Blade Runner 2049?

Post#1 » by matchman » Sat Sep 30, 2017 4:30 pm

The first one in the eighties was so good that I was worried if the sequel can keep it up, or at least somehow decent.

i really love the first one. even went to see it at the ziegfield in manhattan a bunch of years ago, before it closed, because i wanted to see it on a real big screen. but i'm not really sure you can ever recapture the tone of that movie nowadays. it will probably look spectacular but other than that i'm not sure it will be what i want.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen the first one. It’s on my to do list but I never seem to get to it.

Villeneuve is the best film maker in the game if this movie is as good as the reviews say. Prisoners was the best movie of 2013 imo, Sicario was great, Arrival was ok (disappointing but not bad), and if this is great he's proven he can take on any type of movie aside from light hearted comedies.

Not really. Sequels usually suck and this movie didn't really need a sequel, the point was made in the first movie.

Yes. Why? Ridley Scott is not doing the sequel. See Alien franchise.

Agreed although it seems I liked Arrival more than you. He's definitely one of my favorite directors out right now.

Very much. But we all know that sequels, remakes, etc. most often fail.

Good entertaining movie. Old movies used to leave out things to imagination. Nowadays, everything has to be clearly explained to viewers. I found that to be the main difference between the original and this one. But decent flick for the new age.

Honestly, I've never been able to make it though the original movie. Not sure why. I'll end up catching this if/when it hits HBO/Starz/Showtime or Netflix.

I'd give it a solid 4 to 4.5 out of 5 stars. It's visually stunning, moves along really well for a nearly 3 hour movie, and while the plot is somewhat convoluted it held together pretty well. I'd definitely recommend seeing it in the movies rather than waiting intil it comes out on dvd/blu-ray.

never saw the first one . I always thought it looked lame when I would see VHS copies of it young. I watched the new one almost halfway thru and was like this is really good. Maybe I should watch the original first.. So I did research and found out there is mad versions, but the Final Cut is considered the best so I downloaded it. will go thru both tonight.

You'll love it if you love noir. Also one of the best looking movies ever. Next to the sequel probably the best looking movie ever imo. Definitely best of its time.
