I agree. I was in attendance when the Rangers lost 2-3 to Toronto. An agonizing loss due to waived off game tying goal by Grabner.

Throughout the game, the Rangers had so many opportunities, even a 5 on 3 Power Play but the AV system is this constant motion, precision that requires patience. The problem is, sometimes the perfect condition never appears and it ate so much time off the clock w/o a shot on goal.

So much attention to offense...the Rangers were ahead in EVERY game going into the 3rd period of the Stanley Cup Finals but lost to the Kings.

Not holding leads is AV’s Achilles.

The Rangers would be STUPID to make Mcdonagh available. It is RARE the captain is not the highest paid defenseman let alone player on his team. He NEVER complains that the team is piss porn getting back, also Lundqvist has problems taking those clean shots.

Ryan Mcdonagh IS the Rangers best player not named Henrik. The things he does, will not show up on fantasy stat sheets but trust me, the Rangers would be EXTREMELY stupid to trade him.

His contract is what like 4.8 or something, but he has a year left after this season. He'll be 30 and requesting a huge contract, especally on the open market. At his current contract, you can get a kings ransom for his value. I say we go young, we have 5 very talented prospects, I think we need to add more because I've given up on this core of NYR especially with AV

You can probably get a 1st + 2nd and 2 top 5 prospects for McDonagh.

Zucc can get a 1st and a top 4 prospect

Ah, y’see this is the difference between hockey and any other sport. When you hit 30, you are entering your prime especially as a defenseman. Scottie Bowman always kept a defensive core in their late 20s-late 30s because experience counts the most defensively.

Mcdonagh is the only indispensable player on that team. Not Lundqvist as most casual fans are led to believe. I also don’t think he ask for much more. Unlike the NBA Hockey players are not Capitalists. Rangers need to KEEP that lunch pail locker room and they’ll have their depth.

Remember when a hockey player is drafted it takes 2-3 minimum in the minor league before he can be called up. Lias Anderson was just transferred. He’ll do another season in some AHL circuit before the call-up.

The Crosbys, Ovechkins, etc are unicorns. Rangers are not atrocious enough to get that draft position even IF they give up Zucc, McD, and first rounder.

Injuries are just mounting up at this point, you follow the Rangers. It doesn't matter who we call up at this point, this is going to be a year in which we struggle to make the eighth seed if things go right.

Rangers have a depleted roster and played a respectable game again one of the hottest teams in the NHL. Last goal was empty netter. Lets see if the Rangers bring up Anderson at some point. Trade deadline is looming and moves will be made...thinking the Rangers will be sellers and looking for draft picks.

And now we know why Shattenkirk sucked...they should have taken care of that knee earlier in the season.

All I know is that every time I read an update about Shesterkin I really get excited. He has six shoutouts on the season, he's 20-3-3 with a 932 save percentage and is allow 1.72 goals on the season. Hank was 23 when he came over, Igor will turn 23 this upcoming December. Something to keep an eye on moving forward for sure.

Here's my problem with Shattenkirk..and it goes long before the knee. He's undersized. He gives up just about as much as he gives because he gambles way too much on the offensive end, gets caught deep in the opposition zone leading to odd man rushes making the goaltender work harder. He doesn't have great speed and his small frame makes it tough for him to close the gap. His +/- is -14 which is never good for a defenseman.

This is why losing Keith Yandle was a blow. Yandle gambles as well but he's big enough with a long stride to close the gap IF there is an odd man rush the other way. While it was understandable how the Rangers lost Yandle, it's still a barometer for what works and doesn't with the defensive corps.

For anyone on the fence on Mcdonagh, he's PLUS 13 with more assists, hits just no goals but that's ok for a defenseman.

Yes, the Rangers are depleted but in the game against the Avalanche, you saw in the 3rd period with 6:40 to play how the Rangers wasted so much time trying to get the puck out their zone to generate offense. Zuccarello has been just as quiet as Nash. These guys gotta step up. For now, Butch is the only scorer.

Another loss, this time to the LA Kings whom the Rangers handled brilliantly back at MSG in Dec. Rangers raced out to a 2-0 lead then 4 unanswered goals. Apparently Zibanejad, Nash, JT Miller, Zuccarello, Buchnevich...silenced. With the Metropolitan being so hard and difficult to get a foothold, the Rangers could miss the playoffs.

Ryan McDonagh trade rumors are starting to pop up now, once the articles start getting written it's only a matter of time it needs to be addressed. McDonagh has an incredible contract, he would bring in an insane haul. I personally would hate to trade him, but if the right deal comes along you have to consider it. Rangers have got to be sellers.

I would seriously consider selling my half season tickets if Mcdonagh is traded. You don’t get defenseman like that very often.

Here's my plan to soft rebuild the NY Rangers w/o trading the Captain who knows how to position and run the defense:

1. Trade Grabner NOW: Last season, the Rangers forewent trading a guy who was scoring goals at a blistering pace in the first half. Grabner dipped in the second half but he had 4 goals 2 assists in the postseason. He's once again, having a good first half but he's 30, UFA, and he's not the guy who can consistently take/deliver hits especially on defense or forechecking.

2. Trade Nash NOW: UFA, starting to click after a long drought...never a better time to get a good haul for him.

3. Add SIZE, SPEED: Forwards, forwards, forwards....

4. Draft a play-making Center...

I see Nash is out here trying to get that value up

I agree with you, we have a lot of pieces that will help playoff bound teams, especially considering we will be entering a retooling phase it would be a waste not to trade Nash and Grabner. I'd approach Staal about a trade, he's about as solid as they come, you never hear his name for doing something bad and brings a ton of experience. Rangers are in position to quickly replenish this team if we play this right.

Right now, the front office has to wonder...have the players started to tune AV out?

Remember that great season where Lundqvist was out, Cam Talbot came in and the Rangers just ignited all the way to the Stanley Cup Finals. You do NOT have that same aggressive authority. Guys look unsure, skating around, questioning their decision making...and it's all self-evident in the body language when the Rangers are trying to control the puck.

Every AV post game conference is this "meh" look.

He does not have the same gritty guys who can stay healthy. That offensive game he runs makes guys vulnerable. Check it. How many serious injuries have hit his players during his tenure? A LOT. That's cause he prefers fast, smaller guys vs the modern NHL where guys who are BIG, FAST, and can put a body on monsters like Malkin who tower over defenseman.

Right now, EVERYTHING is open to discussion with the NY Rangers including coaching. First thing's first: Trade Grabner and Nash who should provide a HAUL of talent for this team in desperate need of rebuilding. You NEED top 2 line forwards and centers. THEN you can put the Vesey, JT Miller, etc on the 3rd line and voila, this team is killing.

Rangers should sign Evander Kane LW, hard to come by, who is gritty and similar to vintage Todd Bertuzzi is a monster inside.
