Some takeaways:
Phil didn't even talk to Melo privately about wanting him gone and team going in a rebuild. Just went straight to public.
Phil couldn't sell his vision to the guys, nor the staff. But he didn't care, it was triangle or nothing for him. Wanted to leave it behind in organization.
Players (FA's) didn't want to come here because of a triangle. They heard from the guys IN the team, that it is awful.
Players talked about how great those actual insides were from Phil, on the triangle, when he was in practices and it was HIM that talked to them about it. But those weren't often. Everything could've been so different if he himself was coaching.
Phil didn't scout at all. Saw Porzingis play once. Picking him at 4 wasn't a reach at all. Other picks besides KP ar suspect. Will see how it plays out.
Phil didn't change the culture. Didn't have a lot of his guys in the FO.
Phil was disconnected from the league. Has some old favorites around the league. But is lost on all the new trends.
Idea that Phil had complete autonomy, could not be true. Ian said that he heard different things, that maybe Dolan was vetoing some of Phil's decisions. And it wasn't how Dolan talked to the media, that Phil has full carte blanche.
Teams wanted 1st's from NY in trades. Phil said FOH.
Phil pretty much never talked to other GMs. All Mills.
Phil was unprepared on FA's player meetings. Some players just walked away.
KP might bail if organization stays dysfunctional(losing?).
A lot of guys want to play in NY, as in the city and the Garden. Hate Knicks as the org.
KP went out and talked to other players in the league, on how to be a leader.
Tanking takes a big hit on the players and coaching. Will be a big test for everyone if teams is terrible.
Jeff was Phil's puppet. Some players thought he could have stepped up and said that he is a coach and he is gonna run what he wants. Players would've rallied behind him on that.
No way Phil was gonna fire Jeff, so the fact Jeff did nothing is disappointing.
Jeff is now on the microscope for the new FO. They didn't hire him.
Jeff had an conversation with Rambis about him being here after Phil was gone. Rambis asked if Jeff wants him here, Jeff said yes.
