Some takeaways:

Phil didn't even talk to Melo privately about wanting him gone and team going in a rebuild. Just went straight to public.

Phil couldn't sell his vision to the guys, nor the staff. But he didn't care, it was triangle or nothing for him. Wanted to leave it behind in organization.

Players (FA's) didn't want to come here because of a triangle. They heard from the guys IN the team, that it is awful.

Players talked about how great those actual insides were from Phil, on the triangle, when he was in practices and it was HIM that talked to them about it. But those weren't often. Everything could've been so different if he himself was coaching.

Phil didn't scout at all. Saw Porzingis play once. Picking him at 4 wasn't a reach at all. Other picks besides KP ar suspect. Will see how it plays out.

Phil didn't change the culture. Didn't have a lot of his guys in the FO.

Phil was disconnected from the league. Has some old favorites around the league. But is lost on all the new trends.

Idea that Phil had complete autonomy, could not be true. Ian said that he heard different things, that maybe Dolan was vetoing some of Phil's decisions. And it wasn't how Dolan talked to the media, that Phil has full carte blanche.

Teams wanted 1st's from NY in trades. Phil said FOH.

Phil pretty much never talked to other GMs. All Mills.

Phil was unprepared on FA's player meetings. Some players just walked away.

KP might bail if organization stays dysfunctional(losing?).

A lot of guys want to play in NY, as in the city and the Garden. Hate Knicks as the org.

KP went out and talked to other players in the league, on how to be a leader.

Tanking takes a big hit on the players and coaching. Will be a big test for everyone if teams is terrible.

Jeff was Phil's puppet. Some players thought he could have stepped up and said that he is a coach and he is gonna run what he wants. Players would've rallied behind him on that.

No way Phil was gonna fire Jeff, so the fact Jeff did nothing is disappointing.

Jeff is now on the microscope for the new FO. They didn't hire him.

Jeff had an conversation with Rambis about him being here after Phil was gone. Rambis asked if Jeff wants him here, Jeff said yes.

People sure do love to talk about players (Melo) and executives (Phil) who are no longer with the team. I'm sure Woj and Begley got all hot and bothered bashing the Knicks and Phil who doesn't even work with the team anymore. Who really cares.

i think that was known from the start though. that phil couldn't fire mills or other people on the staff. he didn't let him fire the team physicians. that kind of thing. i don't think dolan had anything to do with players though.

I love how they come out with this crap just as the season is about to start.

Might be the last time they are able to do this.

Hopefully ESPN goes bankrupt.

Where the Phil lovers at? He was and will always be remembered as a terrible president of basketball operations. Not trading any 1st doesn't make him great by any means, it just means he wasn't a moron (with that particular matter, everything else can be debated).

Basically Phil wanted to be the coach but couldn't.

ChaosHamster wrote:Players talked about how great those actual insides were from Phil, on the triangle, when he was in practices and it was HIM that talked to them about it. But those weren't often. Everything could've been so different if he himself was coaching.

I've said it before and I'm sure I will again - for all the talk of Phil's ego and all of his success, he's one of the most insecure guys you could imagine. He still doesn't get that it wasn't the system but his ability to communicate a system of play that was successful. As an executive he needed to "find a Phil" that could be that communicator. However:

Basically Phil wanted to be the coach but couldn't.

Phil acted like an advisor rather than a POBO.

I can't say I am shocked.

It was pretty disappointing that Jeff never stood up for himself there. He showed in Phoenix that he has the head to be a good coach in this league but he might not have the mettle.

True. A very high level advisor, such as Jerry West... who also **** decides to coach now and then, but that sounds about right.

Would love to see KP turn down $150m and walk. If these guys really think that's a possibility, then they are dumber than they look.

I can't remember the last time ESPN did anything that wasn't click bait.

Probably why their days are numbered.

We were discussing it KP thread. If Knicks don't turn it around I think KP will be the first player to do it...

We all recognize all the issues with this franchise. No reason these idiots make it sound worse than what it is. They are alarming because we will tank this year and it will be a toll on KP? That is complete BS. Philly is still tanking to the end. Minny might fail we don't know. And Woj is claiming KP will look at his peers in Embiid and KAT and will feel bad? That is BS. Complete BS.

How much do you wanna bet on it? Not only does he lose millions on this contract, he resets his Bird Rights, and loses money on the next contract. Then there's the nightmare scenario, where he takes the QO, and proceeds to tear his knee.

No young player that has never seen that kind of money is turning it down the first time. Maybe after the extension he would walk, but not before.
