didn't they want a draft pick too? That would be too much

Yes and it wasn't Hardaway, it was Shumpert. In hindsight, I wouldve made the deal but I didn't have a crystal ball. For me it was no different than the Kemba Walker scenario foisted around this year, except Kemba is a better player now than Lowry was at that point. And the pick became KP.

Otherwise, he has played "ok" for 32 of 43 games.

That's not really a great representation of his season though. He'll have a good stat line every once in a while which drastically boost his numbers, and make him look better overall. He plays terrible defense, and when he's not scoring he's pretty much useless.

Look at his actual game log.
https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/h/hardati02/gamelog/2018

He's averaging 15 shots per game, yet has 18 games where he can't even get 6 field goals. We just have to hope that he can improve over the next 3 years to somewhat live up to that contract.

Nope I’m saying Jeff Don’t hold guys accountable. Let’s be serious. Jack, Beasley, and Kanter was starting starting together at one point. Agreed guys should take it upon themselves but it starts at the top. Not everyone on Boston is good at D but Stevens demands it and has philosophies. Jeff is all talk.

only 2 of those games fit the criteria of him having less than 6 FG and more than 15 FGA.

and that's a strange set of parameters for your query, holmes.

Bingo.

THJR and etc might not be good defenders, but Jeff gets the absolute least out of them defensively. He's like the "Anti Bud" for THJr.

He wasn’t a good defender then either IMO.

He can stay in front of a guy if dialed in. Everything else, he’s mediocre at best.

Hardaway had a very Bi Polar season. Some games he looked like a serviceable player, but then he would go through terrible stretches where he looked like he belonged in the d league.

I don’t think he will ever play up to his contract, but that isn’t completely his fault.

I think Hardaway needs to focus on being an all around player. He has shown the ability to do everything. He can pass, He can rebound , He can defend , He can shoot , He can drive , He can finish a the rim , He can beat his man 1 on 1 (to an extent ), He does have a high IQ, So then why the hell is he so inconsistent at doing it all? Why can’t he defend every game? Why does he have games where he has 6-8 assists and then games where he has 0-1 assists? Why is he so damn streaky?

It’s frustrating to watch a lot of the times. I think Hardaway is pressing too hard and just needs to focus on doing everything. He can be a 16/5/5 type of player if he focused on taking higher % shots and looking to distribute a little more.

Hardaway impressed me as a passer and with his court vision last season. He made good passes in the pick ,mand roll , half court, and in transition. Despite Hardaway playing so inconsistently bad at times, I don’t remember him turning the ball over at an alarming rate. He should look to make more plays for him and his teamates and stop chucking.

I don’t think Hardaway has the length to be effective as a SF. I think he’s a pure 2 and we need to organize our roster so that he is playing SG. Frank needs to be the PG and Mikal our SF and Timmy needs to step his game up or he’ll be on the bench squad with his buddy Trey.

KP/Oquinn
2019 FRP/Beasley
Bridges /Beasley
Frank/Hardaway Jr/Dotson
Kyrie /Burke /Frank

Is what I’m looking forward to. I think Hardaway JR will serve fine as a starter next year, but when we are ready to compete, he’s probably best served coming off the bench.

Good post. I agree with basically everything you said, with one exception. I think if he plays up to his potential he can be a legitimate starter on a very good team. I can also see him actually making one or two all star games if he puts it all together. Right now his shooting is the main thing holding him back. If he can regain his stroke from the first half of his rookie year, he can become a very good player.

Timmy needs structure and stability. Last year we had Sessions starting and everyone but KP struggled. When Jack/Frank got the team on track...Timmy finally got it going. Then the injury. Then the tailspin the team was in when he got back. Then KP goes down. Jeff sucked. Timmy struggled. He tries to do too much. He's not a 2nd option. He's not the 3pt stud he thinks he is either.

If he would focus on being a cog instead of the wheel he'd be a better player.

Drive more. Pass more. Defend more. Shoot less. That's what he needs to do. Chuck Chuckaway Jr is trash. He's better than that. He just has to be put in that position to succeed. More talent and better coaching should help him find his role. I'm not giving up on him yet.

If THJ figures out how to shoot over 40% from the 3 point line, then he will become someone worth the contract he has. That will require a combination of him improving his shot selection and making the most of the open opportunities that he gets. This is the only thing stopping him from having the impact on the floor as a guy like Joe Ingles. As a matter of fact, he might even have a bigger impact if he can get to that percentage. Maybe he figures this out next year. Funny his best shooting percentage year came in Atlanta when he was forced to shoot good shots or get sent to the D League again.
