I don't expect to see him in a pivotal series or in the playoffs but a little representation counts for something (at least it does with me).

Speaking of represent, everyone's favorite Cashman signing Jacoby Ellsbury is out for the season. I know, you all expected this American icon to come off the DL and save the team but alas, he has to have surgery to repair a torn labrum from his hip. Torn labrums is a Yankee specialty (see Pineda).

Good news, the Yankees have TWO more seasons of his services at $21.4M per season. :nonono:

Since there's no salary cap in baseball it doesn't really effect a team like the Yankees too much outside of possible luxury tax implications. Just makes Jacoby untradeable unless you're willing to eat a ton of money. Insurance probably covers most of the contract anyway so Hal probably isn't even paying this guy that much out of his own pocket.

Literally nobody liked that signing and literally nobody expected him to come in and save the day. Cano is my favorite Yankee of all time. I wanted to keep Cano instead.

Luxury tax does have implications...it's essentially paying the rest of the league to get better. The Yankees have paid a BOATLOAD of luxury tax under King George.

Hal Steinbrenner has been nicknamed "Bean Counter" for a reason. He's definitely one to keep the Yanks as low as possible when it comes to the luxury threshold.

This is a sign of the times. The Boston Red Sox are #1 in payroll. They are FIFTY Million ahead of the New York Yankees. The Yankees are 7th.

Do the Yankees need to spend more to win a WS? We're going to find out...
