I dont see it something is up apparently, Machado agent overplayed his hand and screwed Machado out of a bigger contract with the Yankees. Maybe Arod (who is a Yankee advisor) could get involved here him and Machado are tight. Machado might have to fire his agent and just have a face to face meeting with Arod and Cashman settle their differences and come to an agreement.

It looks like the Yankees are mostly done with their offseason (outside of a Gray trade). I would say they have had a very good offseason, not great but very good. The Red Sox haven't done much and the Yanks have improved. Obviously a Machado or Harper would put the offseason at another level. I just wonder if the Yankees have gone out and tried to cover themselves in the IF with Lemahieu and Tulo so Machado is not a necessity and that Harper, who fits much more longterm (lefty outfielder) is still a possibility, especially if the price drops on him a bit the way it seemingly has with Macahdo.

The draft pick is the key to this right now, not Long (who may or may not pan out). The only pick the Reds can trade according to the CBA is the Competitive Balance A pick they were awarded last November, and is the 36th pick in the 2019 draft. The draft slot itself isn't the important thing as much as the bonus slot that comes with it. The 36th pick in the draft last year was worth $1.97 million; a massive boost to the Yankees 2019 bonus pool which is slated to only be roughly $5.75 million. They just increased their draft power from one of the worst to somewhere in the middle of the pack, and are in play for any big ticket HS kids that falls in June.

Slick move for the price of moving on from a guy who the knew couldn't pitch for them again and was making $7.5 million.

Our bullpen was great last year too, our more pressing needs is another top of the rotation starter, and a more balanced lineup. More contact and more left handed.
