Yes. If we were a playoff team, we'd need him. But what's the point of paying a backup center that much money when we're just going to suck again.

Why not? We already have a ton of backups making a ton of money. The more the merrier :noway:

Kanter hopes to opt out and sign a long term deal with the Kicks also.

Let Kanter take a walk if he opts out, don’t bring back KOQ under any circumstances. Luke Kornet and Noah center rotation, bring in Louis Labyire or whatever his name is if someone gets injured

Yep. Basically, just settle for Pachulia or Dedmon types unless they're true studs.

The Knicks FO cant be trusted yet with how to spend surplus cap. For whom are they freeing the cap for? Unless they are planning on using the space to absorb expirings for pick, just let Noah finish his contract.

IF Kanter opts out, Kyle doesn't come back, and we stretch Noah, what does that leave us with? Quite a bit right? That could be dangerous.

For who?
Why pay him past 2019?

Do not stretch Noah.

probably about 25 or so in cap space.

but they shouldnt be considering stretching noah

just eat the 18 million for 2 more years...instead it just frees up a roster space and becomes a 5 year 7 million dollar dead contract on the books.

I don't want to be paying Noah's contract for 5 more years...2 is enough.

Get a new coach with defensive schema and identity. Bring back Noah to play backup. Let Enes and KOQ kick rocks if they opt out. I'd love to see Frank, KP and Noah on the floor together with a good defensive scheme.

There's really no need to stretch Noah. After next seasons he'll go from a huge liability to a minor asset as an expiring contract. Just keep him if he can give you anything as a backup or even if he starts that would be gravy if the Knicks truly plan on playing rhe long game.

in such a case, cap space is a valuable asset, no?

Just ride the damn contract out. Stretching him is boneheaded.

Having Noah's EC after next season could be valuable...

The ONLY reason to stretch Noah is if your #1 target FA wants to join the team and that is the only way to sign him.

Yea, I was thinking that we can do a sign and trade for Kemba and we can eat Batums contract in the process while handing over 2 unprotected 1sts and offering an unprotected pick swap in the gap year. The catch is that I have to be able to drop the B-word towards the female of my choice.

Mainly, if we do want to add a FA or trade for an actual superstar (like Celts did Kyrie) we can use the versatility of the Noah contract to our advantage. Same with Lee, Thomas etc. If we create the cap space NOW, we also create a chance to USE IT. If we free up say 12M in cap, we have jjjjust enough to overpay a MLE type guy for 3 years and become an unmovable. The only scenario that I would not throw an absolute hissy fit about would be if we stretched Noah to eat a 1 year contract attached to a pick.
