He has a naturally long stride so when he is tightly defended he won't be relying on outquicking people as much as having superior footwork and misdirection. He's not slow as some think and he might actually get much quicker, but he will not likely have elite quickness on his first step. And it won't really matter.
All of the dribbling drills are creating the muscle memory like ballroom dance patterns where his body learns how to compress his steps and change direction in a precise and deliberate manner.
With a tighter handle he will be getting to the rack often, because he will be a very crafty player.
