If they did this, it would be great.

But the first 3 game winning streak, that approach is going out the window.

we've embraced the tank the last two years and ended up picking 9th

no matter what we do we can't be as bad as teams like BK, Phx, etc

The difference between us and Philly is that we hit on our first pick when we bottomed out. Philly sat all o ftheir guys which allowed them to tank consecutive years. Until KP loses his talent we'll never be top 5 in the lottery again. He's too good on his own. You'd need to sit him out this whole year of that's the direction you want to take as a franchise.

if they wanted to tell jeff not to play the veterans, that they brought here, they could have done that at any time. they did that exact thing after the trade deadline and jack was benched. that wasn't jeff's decision. they told him to do that. he admitted it was a directive from the front office. they played both sides of the fence, the way the knicks usually do, and said "well, maybe we can make the playoffs. let's see what happens". well, what happened ? when you don't commit to a plan....this is what happens. stuck with the 9th pick and no playoffs. good call.

exactly why i have yet to be impressed with them when people are going crazy they found a decent rotational piece in trey burke...we should be picking much higher this year.

Jeff had the team in the playoff hunt for 32 games of the season. HE was trying to make the playoffs. The FO didn't push for that. They said they would let him do his own thing. That's all. Let's not rewrite history.

every coach is trying to win. it's up to the front office to put out a roster that can't.

The GM didn't build the roster. The previous 2 did. He came in...signed 4-5 guys. Jack was to help with Frank. Great move. Sessions/Beasley were the only vets he signed and Sessions was cut. So....Beasley is it. He signed Dotson/Williams/Burke and traded for Mudiay. Let's not act like he was trying to build a playoff team.

Fact is....Jack/Frank/Timmy/KP/Kanter and the early season defense has us in the playoff hunt. That's all.

Again what would you have done in the beginning of the year to really stink it up while Porzingis puts up mvp level production? There's nothing the fo could have done. People love adjusting the Jack narrative when it sees fit. Every single game thread was how Jack secretly is hurting us and how he couldn't play defense.... So what is it? Jarret Jack is actually a useful player who cost us a high pick? Or he sucked and our D was bad because of him? It can't be both. If you want to blame one thing outside of KP it would have to be Hardaway signing which is fair game if you're end game was to tank at all costs.

I think this is just a message for the casual fan. The people who pick up the post and bitch and moan on talk radio. They are the ones who get hype for the big names and the quick fix moves and cry when it doesn't work out. So yea it's smart that the FO keeps repeating this message so hopefully those fans and the media will chill the hell out. I'd love it if the media would just treat the Knicks like the crap team they are for once.

Unfortunately KP and Timmy (to an extent) helped us win games early on when some of the better teams were trying to acclimate into the season. We needed to basically sit both of them to be in the position Phoenix is in now.

of course i wouldn't have signed timmy. i would have stripped the team down before the season started. no jack. no timmy. no lee. no nothing. that's what everyone claimed they wanted. isn't that why everyone wanted melo gone ? we were gonna tank. but then people wanted to believe the knicks can be good without melo on some revenge bullsh*t that they conjured up in their mind. "we'll show him". well, we showed him.

Watch the team win 5 out of 10 games to start the season. "Our goal is now to make the playoffs!"

I swear people forget that KP busted the tank. Not Jarrett Jack and not Tim Hardaway Jr. As long as KP is playing meaningful minutes for the Knicks we will not be the Suns. Rather than people being happy about this, they whine. What we need to do is stop looking for the next home run swing and start looking for guys that fit the team first/defensive identity we are trying to develop. By doing that, we might end up with the next Mitchell or Leonard in the near future. Stop following Philly and start looking at the Spurs and the Jazz.

-Gordon Hayward 9th overall pick
-Donovan Mitchell 13th overall pick
-Rudy Gobert 27th Overall pick
-Kawhi Leonard 15th Overall pick
(I wont even continue going down the Spurs list, we know what they do with draft picks)

Find your identity. Draft appropriately. Improve. I really don't understand what is wrong with this.

GONYK wrote:I don't follow the argument that Mills and Perry made "win-now" moves this season.

For me, it was more the lack of rebuilding moves and the lack of commitment to playing younger players (albeit who knows how **** the trade market really was). But the argument can be made that any offloading of Lee, Oquinn and the positive veterans for "poor trade value" would've been counteracted by a stronger chance at a top 3 pick.

Ie: Who wouldn't trade Lee, Oquinn, Jack, Bease/Kanter for 2nds if you knew you'd be locking up a top 3 pick? When KP went down that's immediately what we should have done. That's just my opinion tho.

As for this statement, I'm happy they are saying this. Hopefully it's to test out the waters and see if we as a fan base are like, go for it. If they see our support with a longer and more thought out rebuild, maybe they'll revisit these kind of future planning moves moving forward...Who knows?

For now lets pray to baby jesus for that Doncic life :o

Its not 2K. They still have tickets to sell. nobody was sitting KP. And Timmy , Lee, and especially Jack werent game changers. they are role players on a good team. There is no "plan" that calls for losing games on purpose. no billion dollar empire is going to shelve there best product purposely. People dont account for the business end. and obviously Timmy was a bad contract, but had we started Dotson we could just as easily be 10th in the lottery. the difference in talent isnt extraordinary between what we had and bench fodder. Players and coaches play to win,and you get stuck with the results. thats what happens in real life and not in simulations.

and nothing is guaranteed, had we lost a few more games in 15 we would have been stuck with Okafur rather then KP.

This is our tank year. lets hope for a clear cut franchiser next season, and draft well this year. No F'n projects.

Am I really taking a big leap here?

This organization always remains blameless or somehow not as bad as the reality.

I think Jeff knew he was on the hot seat and did what the FO told him to do - compete and try to win every game.

Jeff alone shouldn’t bear the weight of the minutes distribution.
