There is some overanalyzing going on with these measurements. Like I don't really care how long Gobert is, I'm not taking him on my team over a guy like Kyrie Irving. Kyrie will have that dude dancing in circles trying to guard him.

what are you even talking about?

who is comparing Rudy Gobert to Kyrie Irving...that don't make any sense.

Measurements do play a role because they effect lot of areas of basketball especially shooting and defense. Now does that mean every good players has to have long wingspan of course not. No one is saying that.

For guards its not as important but still guys like Chris Paul are outliers.

No one is saying oh this guy is tall and has a long winspan he will def be good when they have no talent. But when you put talent together with wingspan you usually get the best players.

Look at the 1st and 2nd team all-nba last year.

2016-17
FIRST TEAM

F: LeBron James, Cleveland Cavaliers
F: Kawhi Leonard, San Antonio Spurs
C: Anthony Davis, New Orleans Pelicans
G: James Harden, Houston Rockets
G: Russell Westbrook, Oklahoma City Thunder

SECOND TEAM

F: Giannis Antetokounmpo, Milwaukee Bucks
F: Kevin Durant, Golden State Warriors
C: Rudy Gobert, Utah Jazz
G: Stephen Curry, Golden State Warriors
G: Isaiah Thomas, Boston Celtics

9 out of 10 have elite height and wingspan for there position.

Out of that entire list, only 4 dudes have won championships and one of them is a 6'2" guard with 6'3" wingspan

The freakiest dudes on that list have never even sniffed a conference finals let alone an NBA finals let alone a title. So what are we really talking about here?

But that dude is the best shooter in NBA history. I can't speak for everyone but if a player has elite skills and/or elite athleticism then yea I take measurements with a grain of salt but without elite skills I think they matter a great deal. To be great in the NBA a player needs elite something.

Im still rolling with sexton as a player, but can you really say you would want him over Mikal or Miles thoe...espically with burke here? come on fam

i mean my stance on this draft is that i just hope we end up with one of those 3 guys (sexton, mikal miles). i wouldn't dismiss sexton cause of his height cause i know what he brings to the table as a player. i think they all have similar upside imo

Ok Let me be clear. Im not dismissing him. But he would be like 3rd or 4th on the list now. I am not even a big miles fan, but I can deal with him more than sexton at this point considering all things.

this will be such an interesting draft

after the sting of missing on Mitchel I expect our team, and all the others, will be scouting differently

at 9 we have the chance to get Carter, either Bridges, sexton or young

all of those guys could be as good as anyone in this draft out side the top 3
or they could be a major disappointment

super hard work for the scouts

While his ball skills have improved, Bridges still has the skill set of a face-up four/hybrid forward than a straight three. He's not overly advanced with the ball in the half court, struggles to make shots from the perimeter (1-of-9 from three with loose mechanics), and isn't the most comfortable passer on the move or versus pressure. Bridges is steadily improving in all of those areas, but his success at the college level will most likely come as a mismatch power forward given his ability to finish above the rim inside, rebound, and defend bigs - Source: http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Miles-Bridges-81785/ ©DraftExpress

http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Miles-Bridges-81785/

Bridges is listed by Michigan State as 6-7, but his last official measurements put him at 6-6 with a 6-9 wingspan. Losing that inch would make him slightly undersized as a small forward and well undersized at the 4 based on a collection of 2016 measurements from Nylon Calculus. In fact, several 6-6 wings drafted since 2012 would be characterized as strict shooting guards. Bridges isn’t Jonathan Isaac.

Lets say the top 8 is some variation of:

Ayton, Doncic, Bagley, Bamba, Jackson, Porter, Sexton, Mikal

Who do you take?

Really don't like the fit of Carter with KP. I think I'd have to go Miles or SGA.

Probably Carter, or try and get the 2 Clipper picks

Don't love the fit, but he'd be BPA and it's workable

whats your point? Are you holding AD hostage because he has played on horrible teams.

Are AD, Harden, Giannis, Westbrook not top 10 players in the NBA? Are you really holding not winning a championship against them in the age of the super team?

Patrick Ewing is still considered a top 50 player of all time and he never won a championship because he played in Jordan's error.

That is a pretty straw man argument to hate on the best players in the NBA because they haven't won championships.

boy got a 6'7 wingspan. makes sense why no one really questioned his size all year long.

trae young's wingspan is 6'3, remember how you always made fun of his little ass arms? dude is a dwarf

I still love him. But I will always remain constant on my no tiny PGs stance that I have had for years. I love bIg Gaurds. If Sexton was like 6'4 or Fox Size we would not even be having this convo. Dude is 6'0 W/O sneakers.

Fox's standing reach is 8-4. His wingspan is 6-6.75.
Sexton's standing reach is 8-2.5. His wingspan is 6-7.25.
Young's standing reach is 7-11.5. His wingspan is 6-3.
The average PG's standing reach is 8-1. The average wingspan is 6-5.

Bigs that can block shots, shoot 3s, are strong rebounders and are versatile enough to play both 4/5 while cover on switches are so valuable in the modern NBA. Add in one that has a post game, can pass and is strong enough to defend the post you have a guy who is an impact player.

Carter is all of that and would be a complement to KP on the front line. I wouldn't be mad at the Knicks drafting him.

why do the non size and wingspan crowd say that the length and wingspan crowd only cares about height and winspan and they don't have to have skill? Who ever said that?
