In the hypothetical situation that Durant is acquired via a sign and trade, leaving us with enough space to still sign 2 free agents, who would you like to acquire?

A S&T for Durant really isn't feasible for us... You'd have to gut the entire team to make the salaries work.

True. And I wouldn't agree with it. But that seems to be what some are willing to do for AD, so the question still stands...

And just for the record, no team in the history of ever has bought or traded for a championship team in one season where they didn’t already have an established home grown veteran star. So we’re not there yet.

True there’s always a mold breaker and the ‘08 Celtics are the closest model, but any high risk industry uses history as a forecasting tool, stocks, real estate etc. the odds are heavily weighted against throwing half a billion at 3 oft injured veterans not to mention emptying the talent coffers for a decade. I feel like we already tried that.

The opinions from RJ and MAx above is why I think KD is coming . He's hungry to be seen as the best - in his own right.

I hope we sign melo for the rest of the season. could take a little pressure off the young guys since everybody would blame him. and if he's good he could be a possible ring chaser for us next year when we have our max cats. I would love to see that. don't @ me and have a nice day !

this actually makes little sense. the point of trading for AD is that he is not available otherwise. you could sign the FAs you want and then make trades from your warchest and seize opportunities as they arise.

we also don't have the salaries to match a $40m starting salary for KD in the offseason. we DO have the salaries to match a star player currently under contract... barely.

the cap is only going to be $118m. so there actually aren't even 3 max veteran slots from zero. you have to go over the cap via trade for this scenario to be plausible. so are you saying sign two max and then trade for KD (again, can't match salaries)?

my two targets would be kawhi and kyrie in this case.
RIP magnumt

welcome home, thibs.

and melo can come back to a stocked team for the minimum if he wants to come of the bench. yes, p. off the bench.

I thought about this yesterday as like a fall back option for this summer but I think that contract is just too long for my liking. They'd have to give me 2-3 1sts to consider it I think and I don't think they'll pay that price. It practically takes you out of free agency for the next 2 years unless the cap spikes again.

I really think the Knicks will trade their 2019 draft pick if not num 1 along with Dennis , Knox , plus 3 draft picks for Davis .... and then the dominoes fall

That's right. Now is the time. Said this before, but AD+Kawhi would have many very good years together. KD might join them, too.
